Front and east side

You may have seen the photos of the front and east side of the safari (awning) tent. Sitting out on Friday evening, it seemed a little chilly, especially as there was a brisk wind from the northeast. I decided yesterday to put up the east side of the safari tent to keep off the wind. It involved a bit of additional floor to support the leg which goes against the van as well as a bit of jiggling about. The side walls are held at the top by an aluminium beam which goes from the awning box to the front edge of the awning, at the back by a vertical aluminium leg against he side of the van and at the bottom by means of bungees which I thread down through the decking to attach to hooks underneath. Tony and Ursula came last night to inspect progress and stayed until about 22:00 when we unanimously decreed it bed time. During the course of the evening we partook of the soup prepared by Ursula earlier.

Today I decided that it would be a good idea to put on the front of the tent as this would provide a little more shelter from this chilly wind. Like the winter, out of the wind it is lovely and warm, but in the shade and in the wind, it’s quite nippy.
Ursula had offered to spend some time with Heidi so I had brought her along to their tent, accompanied by Luis, after the morning walks. Luis and I stayed for coffee whilst Heidi adjusted to the new situation before departing for other activities. Apparently Ursula and Heidi made good progress although Heidi was very please to be back when Tony brought her back in the afternoon. He stayed for a small glass of wine as I was finishing off putting up the front section of the tent. We decided that the bungees at the bottom needed to go through the next gap in the decking so I went underneath whilst Tony pushed the bungees through and I reaffixed the hooks under the boards. The idea of all this is that the top of the decking is free and clear with all of the hooks and attachments being out of sight underneath. It does require crawling under the decking to attach the bungees however I am working on a more elegant solution. I then went for a nice hot shower in the main bathroom as it was too windy to be showering in the open. We dined in Paleochora and I ate a vegetarian pizza accompanied by a beer.
On our return I did a little tidying up and took the photos you see. Fed all the dogs and am now sitting in the tent with my laptop. Two of the Brown Dogs are on the bed which someone conveniently left, together with two towels, on Tony and Ursula’s pitch. It’s a big, flat bed with just enough space for three Brown Dogs. Equally convenient as there happens to be three Brown Dogs.
