More of the same

I may have mentioned that it rained yesterday but that we had a little sun in the afternoon. Today has been similar to yesterday but without the heavy persistent rain in the morning and the prolonged sun in the afternoon.

I was planning to make use of the shower in the afternoon but then Janne and Antonis showed up. Janne for a chat and Antonis to finish off the stairs. Consequently the slot and the desire to venture out later in order to get a shower, evaporated as yet more rain set in and it got colder.
Antonis finished the steps, putting in the treads and the platform. Then we spent time chatting about how disorganised things were generally. Interestingly Antonis is the first to agree that things are a shambles. He went off and the next time I saw him was this morning, clasping a bag containing a loaf of bread and the vitamins prescribed for Dave by the vet.
Back in the summer, Janne and Erica moved all the pallets so nicely stacked opposite their van, transporting them to an equally nice stack at the top of the camping. Some 150 pallets maybe. Soon after they returned home, the Grammeno Ferrari turned up with some forty pallets which were then stacked opposite their van. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that there were more pallets to replace the ones they moved in the summer. Janne had moved some of them but then we tried to get the Ferrari to start. However, as usual, there is something wrong with it, so it sits rotting quietly and uselessly through another winter. When it first came to the camping, Georgia proudly showed it to me saying that she has bought it for €500. The body was nothing to look at but it was “mechanically perfect”. I do not recall a time when it has worked satisfactorily for more than a couple of weeks. The money spent on repairs probably exceeded the purchase price.
Giving Dave his jab, I wandered over to the main bathroom in the vain hope of some hot water for a shower. I ran the tap for a while but it is only barely tepid which does not tempt me to trek over in the rain for a cold shower. I rarely see the girl who is responsible for managing the place and she would probably feel the need to get authorisation signed in triplicate to switch on the electricity for hot water. I could use my own shower but I’d need to fix it first and remove all the stuff currently stored within. The water heater works only when it feels like it. The cold water has to be put into a 25 litre container which has a small submersible pump. It’s fine if you’re touring in the summer but for full time use it’s old and unsatisfactory.
The rain continues to patter on the roof. The little pot on the frame at the foot of my bed, receives the occasional dip which finds its way past my latest waterproofing attempt, At least the large roof light is watertight.
Boris and the Brown Dogs are in the van with me. Millie and Dave are in the storeroom and the others are hopefully in their houses. This persistent rain is no fun for anyone.
