Dave’s visit to the vet

Antonis arrived just after eight and we set off for Chania via the Paleochora post office where I picked up two packages. Sadly neither contained the replacement battery for Antonis’ phone which I ordered a while ago.

The vet examined Dave and pronounced him ‘stable’ so she doesn’t want to see him again unless he develops any new symptoms. I spent a lot of money buying food for him for the next three months as well as medication for him and the other dogs too. At least there is no need to go back to the vet for two months. Even so, I can get Antonis to buy the meds for me as he goes to Chania most weeks. As the weather gets warmer, Dave will find it less amusing driving in the car as will I. Whilst at the vet, there was an English woman with a very fearful dog. Dave had a chat but she was not very sociable.
Back at Grammeno by 12:30, I got a bit to eat and checked my emails before enjoying a little siesta.
The German couple from last night have returned following their visit to Elafonissi. They were not wholly impressed as the tide is very low at present leaving only an expanse of send where there would usually be water. They returned to Grammeno and were preparing food as I went to see them. They are staying a further two nights and have paid up front which is good for me as I have less running about to do. I take the money, put it in the cash box in reception and fill out the form. Job done. Why we are still doing things with paper forms beats me as it is all such a waste of trees and time. I’d much prefer to enter the information into a Web page from my iPad, let the program calculate the tariff as well as record all the client’s data for analysis and marketing purposes. That’s how I’d do it anyway. But this is Greece so we’re thankful if there is change in the cash box and can find a pen that works in the office. The computer takes about three weeks to boot up to become useful. My iPad is on in two seconds…
I detect that a small, white puppy may have been making the most of my chair in my absence having been excluded from inside the van due to me closing the stair gate. In fact he and Obi have been quietly asleep in there all afternoon unbeknown to me. He ‘borrows’ the odd item from the table by my chair but it’s usually only some worthless item of plastic.
Whilst in Paleochora we stopped for the baker and the hardware store so I took the opportunity to pop in to see Heike in her pet shop. She tells me she will be there on Thursday when I take Princess for her operation. Antonis will drop me and someone else may bring me back if he is not available when I’m ready to go. Georgia is taking Micky and Five for their operations tomorrow morning for 10:00. As of 18:12, Georgia has not arrived at the camping and she does not usually do anything in the mornings much before 11:00. Hopefully there will not be a change of plan and I get lumbered taking them all in on Thursday. I elected not to go with Georgia as I could see myself being stuck out there for much of the day. We’d need to wait until all three had their operations and were recovered before being able to leave. The vets are German, so quite efficient but this is still Greece so anything can happen.
The cups of the anemometer are still as are the leaves of the olive trees. There is light cloud and the sun is trekking towards the west. Sunset today is 20:06 and there are 13hrs 25mins daylight 55.9% of the longest day. Tomorrow will be 1 minute 57 seconds longer.
