Quite an active Sunday for a change

Yesterday evening, the phone rang and I could see a UK mobile number so guessed it might be someone at reception. It turned out to be a guy called Gary from Nottingham who wished to stay at the camping and saw my number on the office door. I showed him the facilities and the pitches near the beach but he preferred to be at the back of the camping behind Lau. We had a bit of a chat this morning and he told me he plans to go to Gavdos in a couple of days. It’s a bit windy at present so sometimes the boat doesn’t sail. He says he likes to take photographs of the night sky. There is less light pollution on the islands he says. I remember lying in my sleeping bag on Kythira watching the moon and the stars some years ago.

There was no evening walk yesterday due to the windy weather and the number of people about on the camping and on the beach. More poo for me to clear up unfortunately.

There was a wedding nearby with some quite loud music which went on into the night. I could hear it but it didn’t bother me at all. I was watching a film called The Soloist but got bored with it in the end so decided to go to bed. It was 23:15 by then anyway. I let Fido and Pea out as usual and went round to the loos myself so could hear the music as I walked round the storeroom.

We were up quite early, just after 05:30 and we were out on the Promontory well before 06:00. It takes a little time to get them all together in the mornings as there is usually a certain amount of fussing about when they first get up. The current procedure is as follows:

  • Get dressed
  • Let out Brown Dogs followed by Princess and Pea – they are on the decking
  • Get Boris and put him on a lead on his own so that his feet don’t get trodden on
  • Collect together Brown Dogs, Pea and Princess and put them near the fence on their leads
  • Give Dave his tablet and maybe put biscuits in the container for the walk
  • Get Charlie and Millie out and put them somewhere on their leads away from Boris and the other so they don’t get tangled up
  • Get out Heidi, Oskar and Minnie from the SDC collecting Charlie and Millie on the way
  • Grab Boris and his ball thrower
  • Grab the Brown Dogs, Princess and Pea and put Boris with them
  • Open the gate and get the Boris group outside whilst ensuring the left-hand group don’t get tangled up
  • Get other group through gate and close it
  • Walk through camping to beach hoping not to meet Micky or Five on the way
  • Make way to Promontory as speedily as possible to let them off

Later, I spent some of the time copying the content of old emails to the blog. You can now see emails from September 2013 if you scroll down to the bottom of the posts and click the numbers at the bottom:

The bigger the number, the further you go back in time.

Lau, my Dutch neighbour came to see me to arrange for the storage of his satellite antenna as he starts his journey back to Holland tomorrow morning. He has already disposed of most of his other unwanted items including his motorbike and its trailer. He will be back in October or end of September once the weather is cooler and the tourists are fewer. He likes to watch sport on the TV hence the satellite antenna. He said I could set it up and use it if I wanted but I mostly watch during the winter when the nights are longer and cooler.

There seem to be other dogs in the camping at present which makes it a bit harder to keep my lot quiet. There is a dog which sounds just like Princess barking out in the camping. If Princess were not lying quietly out on the decking, I could believe it was her.

We had a good walk this evening and the camping is quite busy so I think we will forego the evening walk. My new assistant will be here soon so that should make life easier.
