Happy Birthday June!

As I was getting out of bed I could hear the sound of Kostas’ 4×4 driving down to the Promontory. He was there before us this morning and was the only person we saw. He waved cheerily from a distance as I looked over from the cliffs as I gazed out to sea. I could hear his pump motor in the distance as I continued my distant gazing. It was cooler again so I was glad of the fleece I’d put on from the previous evening. There was a northerly wind, the same as the day before and there were wavelets on the sea. I didn’t let Luis and Princess off immediately to try to minimise the amount of yapping however they started as soon as the pump did and then caught sight of a distant fishing boat which also deserved their attention. The others played and bathed and Boris fetched his ball. Obi and Minnie also disappeared but both returned in good time to leave with the others. At one point I sat down in the sand and hid from them all since they’d dashed off in front of me. I cannot have been there for more than a few seconds before they all came racing back to find me. I sat and threw Boris’ flashing ball which he seems to really like. It was past flashing by that point but it bounces interestingly and erratically. Princess and Pea were ragging, assisted by Luis. The others ran and played making a terrific noise and Boris, despite everything going on around him, returned his ball wading through the writhing bodies to deposit it at my feet. When focussed on the ball he seems oblivious to all around him. In times past, that level of noise and excitement would have really bothered him. Later, as we sat in the sand as I gave out biscuits, I was equally surprised at how tolerant he is of them all being so close to him.

Back at Grammeno I kept the dogs quiet as I knew Janne and Erica would like to sleep as long as possible on their first morning. Later, Janne went off in the car and I wondered if he might come back with a loaf of bread. He was gone quite a while so I decided to pop to the supermarket anyway. Just as I was in sight of the camping entrance, I saw Janne turning into the drive. He hadn’t intended to go shopping but decided to buy bread as an afterthought. Maybe I should have just waited a little longer and not been so hasty. The loaf is in a plastic wrapper so should still be ok tomorrow.

The computer which Sigi dropped off on Sunday is now going to be used by the boys for their games so I decided to root out an old hard disk and load up Windows 10 for them. It had Windows 10 before so no licence is needed on a reinstall. They can amuse themselves putting all their games back on and I’m sure Sigi will be delighted that she need not share her computer with them anymore. I suspect  they will probably get into network games so use both computers anyway.

I phoned June to wish her happy birthday and she caught me up with her news. She told me that Bonnie is now sixteen years old and still doing well. We didn’t speak for long because the battery on her phone as going flat and also she was expecting a call from Cyprus where one of her sisters lives. Two Mediterranean birthday phone calls!

Jo was the next call as I knew she would be going into hospital again soon. Jo doesn’t like heat so was somewhat ‘addled’ which was the phrase she used to describe her condition. She goes back into hospital for yet another operation on Friday, so fitting that zipper was a wise choice.

The EG mail server keeps shutting down for some reason so I needed to check that out again. I carried out some updates over the weekend so it might be something to do with that. I will continue to monitor it and give it a restart this evening.

Luis is currently in the Dog House for excessive noise. Transferring him to Millie’s house outside the compound has had a peaceful effect. The wind has blown the flap down over the front of the cage but I can still see that he is asleep inside. Luis is just one metre away from Boris who is asleep in the shade by his entrance gate.

The wind calmed down followed by a warm evening with no need for a fleece or additional shorts.
