It were a good do

Staggering back, just after midnight, having gorged myself on various different types of vegetable and tap water, I shut up the barking dogs. I felt that other people on the camping might like to have some sleep. Not only were my dogs barking but also Georgia’s as she was having a parallel birthday do. I stayed, let them out and finally went to bed around 01:00 to be woken at 04:00 by Minnie barking at something which sounded like another dog barking in the distance. I got up as usual at 05:30 although the alarm sounded a while before I responded.

The pre-party began at Janne and Erica’s caravan where there were drinks and nibbles. I watched via the CCTV camera as I felt it better to stay on my side as I guessed it might get quite noisy. That said, the singing and clapping only caused a little reaction from the dogs. I followed everyone down to the restaurant when they left.

Janne and Georgia’s parallel birthday parties were held in the bar/restaurant area. Quite a few of Janne’s friends and relatives had come to Crete to join the celebration. I sat next to a neurologist called Tor and his seventeen-year-old son whose name I didn’t get. Tor was a childhood friend of Janne and Tor and his son did a little number in Swedish which was very entertaining. Even without the ability to speak Swedish, it was possible to work out the rhymes and some of the words they were playing with. It was mostly to do with words to describe Janne which contained the sound of ‘Jan’. One example is that Janne is a vegeteriJAN. It was more amusing if you were there to see it. The son I thought was particularly brave as teenagers are often too embarrassed to be performing in front of a bunch of strangers. The food was good and everyone had an enjoyable time. Tor’s son engaged me in a conversation about Greece and the EU and he professed to have an interest in politics without really having enough time to properly keep up. I sloped off at midnight as I suspected the dogs might be barking due to the number of Happy Birthdays, clapping and cheering. Sad really as I didn’t get to say goodbye:  I suspected they might all kick off again if I went back.

It was windy in the night as well as during this morning’s walk. One FreeLoader car in the car park which was unable to escape my gaze as we walked, pushed by the northerly wind, from the kantina to the Promontory. I managed to return with the same number of dogs, as Obi, Luis and Princess were not let go and Minnie was reacquired half an hour before the end.

The day was reasonably calm but the wind got up again for the evening. According to the forecast, the night should hopefully be calmer than last. I will be pleased when my sail shade is delivered however it is August and the holidays are in full swing.

Today’s high was 34.6C although it didn’t feel all that hot and I even slept under a sheet last night! The forecast is that tomorrow will be much cooler and still a bit windy.
