The Mad Max Motorhome is back!

As I wandered out across the field with the dogs early this morning I could make out the glinting silhouette of the Mad Max Motorhome (3M) parked in the same location as previously. In my backpack, I was carrying my drone as I hoped it would be no wind and I would be able to fly it. I was also wearing my glasses so able to make out the registration plate of the 3M to see that it comes from Germany. As it turned out, their dogs made no sound as did mine.

Arriving at the end of the Promontory I could see Boris’ flashing ball flying through the air so surmised that Ursula had beaten me once again. I sorted the dogs and got out the drone to fly for a while. There was a little wind but I hoped it would not affect the flight too much. It flew around until the first battery ran out after about ten minutes then fell to the ground.  I had carefully charged up all the batteries the previous evening to be sure they were fully charged. I inserted the next battery and ventured over towards the lagoon. Shortly after, the drone started to become unresponsive so was drifting helplessly in the wind. The lights started to flash which indicates the batteries are discharged whereupon it fell flashing but silently into the drink.

Still, never mind, it was only very cheap and I’d rather grown out of it due to its limitations. Anyone losing a £1,500 drone into the sea might feel differently.

With the excitement of looking for the drone over, the dogs played and we went back to base for tea and chatter. Breakfast followed and then another little walk for Dave with Luis in tow. The dogs were surprisingly quiet during breakfast probably due to Luis being with me and tied to my chair. He was most interested in all around him and hardly uttered a sound. Heidi snoozed on.

I went back to prepare for my weekly telephone call which was followed by a little relaxation in the sun and signing up an account at the car rental company’s website. This should enable me to get away from the airport more quickly. The instructions supplied indicate the North Terminal office at Gatwick is closed due to some works at the airport. I will need to take the monorail over to the south terminal then walk through to their office at the front of the building. If things work as planned, I will have only carry-on luggage so will not need to go to the carousel. The plane lands at 01:00 (03:00 for me) so I intend getting a bit of a snooze on the plane as well as one tomorrow afternoon.

Ursula came round for tea and then we took the dogs for their evening walk. The 3M was still in the same position as earlier except that, this time, one of their dogs was attached underneath it in the shade. You can imagine that it was not going to be possible to pass by without some form of doggy outburst. The incumbent started and mine were pleased to reply. A short pause (paws) and then Ursula arrived with hers. Plenty of doggy dialogue.

We walked to the end of the Promontory where we enjoyed the remains of the afternoon sun whilst watching the waves on the reef off the shore. The sea is from the south at present so much more evident than usual.

Back past the 3M van with a similar amount of racket. You’d think that by now, the people in the van might park just a little further up the road so that we wouldn’t have to keep walking past them. I suppose that requires a little thought so might be too much to expect.

Dogs fed, Dave medicated and walked with Obi so I’m back under my awning enjoying the lovely aroma of the remainder of Ursula’s wonderful bean casserole reheating on the stove. I think it must be almost ready now so time to go in and check it out.

Despite the poor forecast, the weather was warm and sunny with a high of 30.3C. It is certainly not cold now.
