Good-bye 2017!

I’ve spent most of the day working on the new servers at Inter Sport in Lewes.

There have been a number of setbacks, as you’d imagine but things appear to be going in the right direction.

I’m still working on it now and want to get the mail server working correctly before retiring.

There is a certain amount of festivity on the part of the Albanians who have been having a BBQ.… Read the rest

No more rain?

Boris spent the night in the storeroom as there was early thunder and lightning. Naturally, as soon as I put him in, there was no more thunder.

I was awake and fiddling with Inter Sport’s backups at 05:30. I plan to change their servers over on Sunday/Monday as otherwise they are open 7/7 and there is little opportunity for such a complex job.… Read the rest

Chucking it down outside!

It wasn’t raining when I got up although the sky was extremely dark. Boris played with his ball but I hastened to the running part of the outing. Boris doesn’t do running, gets bored quickly and then wanders off. Attaching him to the tree on guard duty is the way.

We ran and didn’t get wet, puffed but not wet.… Read the rest

Got wet!

It rained around 03:00 just enough to wake me up. I managed to get back to sleep but was up early anyway.

We had a lovely walk as did Dave, Five and Mickey later. At least the morning walks were dry.

The day progressively got more cloudy and wet. It was fine when I was talking to Sascha, who arrived early this morning.… Read the rest

Turning nasty

My additional two dogs were pleased to see me at 22:00 when I went to walk them around the camping for the last time. They are very cute together although Five is a little overexuberant so Mickey was squeaking a bit when she was ragging him about.

This morning, we walked as usual, despite an unexpected short shower at around 05:30.… Read the rest

Lie-in today

Aberration due to change of routine I suppose. I forgot to charge my watch and had accidentally touched the mute button so no alarms were sounding. Still loafing in bed at 06:20 as a result. I got up and hurriedly put my watch on the charger. There was enough to do the walk, Dave walk and cycle to Paleochora and back.… Read the rest

Beautiful day!

I woke to the sound of Oskar and Princess barking. Not sure why, probably some creature lurking the other side of the fence.

I decided to get out of bed at 05:45 and make a start, so we were out good and early and it was that little bit darker. It was still a little breezy but not too cold.… Read the rest

A sunny but not too warm day

It was a cold night, with a little rain: the temperature dropped to 8.1C just before six. I was still wearing shorts although I had a good few layers on my top half. I don’t get cold on my legs during the day as I tend to spend a lot of time walking around. My top half suffers the most, especially my neck and shoulders when there is a chilly wind.… Read the rest

It’s windy!

As you can see from the above, it’s been quite windy today. I was hoping it might have moderated by now but that will not be until after 23:00. It has been gusting to Bft 8 from the north.

My ride to Paleochora took 18.5 minutes against the wind. At one point I could only stop and wait for the wind to subside.… Read the rest

A good circle day but…

I really don’t know where the day has gone. Hardly any time to sit down or even to eat! I seem not to have stopped since I got up.

I walked the dogs this morning and then took Dave, who led me on a merry dance down the east beach. I had forgotten to put on a scarf and the wind was blowing from the north.… Read the rest

Happy Solstice!

Happy Solstice!

It’s all downhill from here! Tomorrow will be lighter by 1 second!

It has been overcast for pretty much all of the day with the occasional threat of rain. Following the morning walks. I put a load of washing in the machine. Only the two towels I hung up in the bathroom are not dry.… Read the rest

Boris’ new front door

Still wearing shorts in the mornings although there is less of a propensity to shed clothes as I run around my 500m circuit. I started running earlier this morning as Boris seemed to have lost interest in his ball. I completed the now usual 2km and we went back to base following a quick stop on route to gather them together and administer biscuits.… Read the rest

Falling asleep…

It seems that falling asleep is the order of the day as another person I know well admits to such a tendency. I was cooking and the heat was on. It got warm in the van and I’d just munched down a delicious Thai Green Curry from a paste kindly left for me by Ursula during her recent visit.… Read the rest

Winter is back again

The night got progressively cooler so it was 13.7C when I ventured out. Warm by UK standards of course. I was still wearing shorts and took only a light windproof. There had been a little rain in the night so it was damp underfoot. I gave Dave his morning tablet and jab then got the others ready to go out.… Read the rest

Absolutely not a lazy Sunday afternoon!

I was awake so got up at 05:45. Didn’t seem much point in putting off the evil moment. I gave Dave his injection and his pill at the same time in the hope that he would be better later when I came to feed him and take him for his walk.

The walk was amazingly warm considering the time of year.… Read the rest

Poor Mickey

There must be something out there! Having ensured Oskar was sleeping inside I was awoken at 03:20 by Princess raising the roof.  Normally she is pretty quiet: unlike Pea! This time it was Princess and Fido making a racket. There was a little more disturbance later on but nothing serious.

This morning I ran 2km but seemed to get through the Move circle quicker than usual.… Read the rest

Not long now…

Oskar woke me up at 03:00 – not happy about that was I. Oskar is sleeping in the storeroom tonight. He was barking at something. Not persistently but the odd woof. Woke me up, I was annoyed, so didn’t get back to sleep for quite a while. Oskar wants to sleep outside but the barking bit annoys me.… Read the rest

Nocturnal visitor

It was 02:00 when I woke to the sound of Five (Πέντε) barking outside the compound. I surmised that she would not stop so bit the bullet and got dressed to go outside. She was certainly going for it not far from Lau’s van! I had my head torch on so she could see me approach.… Read the rest

Fuming!

Begin rant:

Due to some cable testing at Bucks County Museum last Friday, the power to all the servers and networking equipment was switched off. Apparently, the company doing the work was unaware that this would affect all the computers in the museum of which EG has a server and several workstations. Later on Friday afternoon, power resumed but now the EG network had inexplicably become one with the Bucks County network.… Read the rest

Much warmer today

The alarm went at 06:00 and I was out of bed a few minutes afterwards. We were out on the Promontory around 06:20 where it was dry, calm and clear. There were a few clouds but I was able to see Mars and Jupiter without problem. We walked the rocks then I ran followed by the Tribe.… Read the rest

Frustrating day

Just one of those days.

I was woken early by dogs barking at other dogs or creatures loose in the compound. I’m not sure quite which it was. There is the odd cat around although no signs of any rodents so far.

It was cool this morning although my weather data is not very good due to some conflict on the network.… Read the rest

Rain in the night

It rained in the night so I was thankful to be getting up at 06:00 and not 05:30. Those thirty minutes make all the difference. There was not a huge amount of rain, not enough even to register on the weather station, so it was fairly dry when we went for our walk. It was very cloudy so I expected there to be a shower and wasn’t disappointed.… Read the rest

The bird has flown and Georgia and Maria also

The storeroom bird was not around today so probably found its way out of the door. Georgia and Maria left this evening as someone important for camping marketing is arriving from Cyprus today. Apparently, they have a connection in Lufthansa which has offices all around the world. The plan is to attract people during the early part of the year.… Read the rest

Bird in the storeroom

The morning got off to a good start with the walk going according to plan. We have lost and found all of the flashing balls although one of them has had its flashing bits removed. It may last another couple of walks but Charlie and Fido are ganging up on it so I don’t give a lot for its chances.… Read the rest

Snow on the mountains!

As expected the gas ran out so I had to fumble around changing the cylinders. At least I no longer have to empty the content of the gas locker to swap bottles.

It was chilly in the night. The minimum was 5.9C which may account for the snow on the mountains. I made an effort to make sure that all the dogs were covered up as I guessed it would be cold.… Read the rest

People were swimming in the SEA!!

We had rain in the night, it was cold and very windy. My desire to get out of bed at 05:30 evaporated when I saw that the temperature was around 10C. Warm for you but chilly for me! We went eventually around 06:30, still quite a presentable time. They had all remained in their beds and quiet until this time so it was only me emerging from my pit which triggered the get-up routine.… Read the rest

Winter may be here again

It was cooler this morning but I was still in shorts. A fleece and a scarf with a coat on top. After my walk and run I was warm enough but still had a coat for the Dave walk. A little rain fell so my trip to Paleochora was somewhat delayed. I bought loads of veg to do interesting things.… Read the rest

Executive Bathroom

Following yesterday’s decadent lie-in until 06:00, we were back to normal times today. Looking out of the windscreen from the comfort of my pit I could see there were clouds although the moon was doing its best on its first morning appearance.

We escaped from the camping without waking Georgia’s dogs, even though someone forgot to put Five on her chain by her house.… Read the rest

Certainly not a Lazy Sunday Anything!

It’s 21:50 and I’m just beginning to write this as it has been a very busy day.

We started the day later at 06:00 as it’s Sunday. Also, there was no bike ride into Paleochora. Other than that, I seem to have spent a lot of time involved in camping business.

It was still windy this morning although lighter, as we went out later.… Read the rest

Full moon – well, almost

A blustery but quiet night. Awakened by my watch at 05:30, I lingered a moment before leaving my pit. Is is warm? yes, the clock says it’s 22C inside the van. Shorts then…

Off for the start of another day at the Funny Farm. Out to give Dave his tablet, then get Pea, Oskar and Luis from the cages.… Read the rest

Yellow wind tonight

Last night was windy but tonight is windier with a forecast of Yellow Wind later.

Orange and red wind is worse as it really makes the tent flap and the van heave and roll. The sail shade reduces the effect dramatically although I have yet to test it in a very strong wind.

The dog houses have been turned so the doors face west: they have the worst of the weather from the side or from behind.… Read the rest
