Princess meets her former master

The evening walk is normally to the top of the Promontory and back, however, we are currently restricted to a quick run along the east, stony beach. This evening two guys in a car drove by as we were walking along. Princess became extremely animated and was very keen to meet the guy who got out. It transpired that she was his dog but he moved house. For whatever reason, they became separated and he’d not seen her since. Sadly, he seemed only pleased to see her and not to reclaim her. Perhaps he has moved on.

It was early up this morning to take Steffi to Souda (Chania CHQ) airport. The international airport is near to the Souda Airbase and the port of Souda. We set off at 03:00 and arrived at 04:45 giving plenty of time for her to catch the flight to Athens then Berlin. Having dropped Steffi off, I returned to Grammeno by 06:15. My driving on the return run was a little more enthusiastic since I was the only occupant of the car.

Ursula was waiting patiently to take out the dogs so we left immediately to head up the Promontory. Boris with his ball and most of the others off-lead.

I’d put Ursula’s pilates mat out the previous night so I left her watering the plants and headed off towards Paleochora to run my 5km. It was a little like Picadilly this morning with several people out running. The only Grammeno candidate on this occasion was me. I even overtook someone on the outbound leg. I was a little tired by the time I got back to the camping. We had some tea and I fed the dogs, had a shower then cycled into Paleochora.

Yannis told me his brother was arranging a series of runs during the weekend which possibly explained the number of people out training. There is a 21km run, a 10km run and a 5km run.

Back for breakfast followed by a little snooze as I was starting to feel tired by then.

Excitement mounted as Georgia discovered the poo pump had failed at the lower septic tank adjacent to the restaurant. Apparently, Xanthippos was called in at 01:00 as the power kept dropping out. Finally, today, following lots of messing about, the pump was swapped out and now stands awaiting removal to the repairers. There is always a spare pump in the workshop. Why it took so long to do this I have no idea and this fact will always remain a mystery I am in no hurry to solve.

Fanis, his wife Elene and daughter Dimitra, are staying in T1 for the weekend. The first I knew of this was bumping into Fanis who was standing outside. He helped me to get my hernia fixed, arranged the surgeon and came to visit me in horsepiddle. They come to Grammeno for a couple of weekends during the season.

There are more people at the camping as we start to head towards the season. Georgia tells me there are a number booked for the weekend so she hopes the weather will remain fine. There is a young family in a small tent not far away from me.

My fakes (Φακėσ) smell cooked so I’m going to put something together to eat.
