Another false alarm

Another thundery, rainy forecast crept up on us today. I checked on Sunday and the week ahead looked good. It was cooler this morning for the walk and then again when I went running. I was a little late going to Paleochora as I found Peter lurking outside my gate when I was leaving.

He wanted to catch up and was telling me the saga of his boat and getting a new engine for it. He’d planned to go back to Austria for a while but then decided to stay and get the boat sorted. His van is still at the camping but I suggested it will get busy soon and that he needs to get away. He likes crowds of people as much as me.

We also talked about another project he has in mind which quite interested me. There are two strips of vacant land near to the camping and he has been finding out the price and ownership information. Not an easy task here as everyone says they own things they don’t but talk as if they do. He has looked at the plot between Delino restaurant and the camping and was thinking about making an offer. He has also looked into the piece of land to the east of the camping, the fields which are right next to the east fence where the sheep are during the winter. He says there are 900m2 available and that the price is reasonable. I should imagine there are conditions as to the use of the land, taking down trees, density etc. But it might be worth looking into. We know that the camping lease has thirteen years to go and there’s a road on the other side with the Cedar Bay Villas to the south. I reckon that one day, that land could be worth loads.

Everything takes ages in Greece so don’t hold your breath!

The white line shows our route in and out of the camping for the summer season.

In the mornings we go early to the Promontory but in the evenings we just go for a wander around the fields for twenty minutes. If the fence near the demolished kantina hadn’t been taken down it might be possible to let the dogs go free in the field.

A cool wind from the west blows over my right shoulder. There are some pretty unfriendly-looking clouds still about. Despite the negative weather forecast, it has not rained so far (20:10). The forecast for tomorrow is worse so I went up on the van roof to apply a little waterproofing paint to a leak around the roof light. That should guarantee there is no rain tomorrow.

The forecast for today and tomorrow. Hopefully, it will not rain before my newly-applied pain goes off

Sophie is in Heraklion at present planning to visit the Venetian Harbour this evening and the museum tomorrow morning. She needs to leave in time to get the connecting bus from Heraklion to Chania and then on to Paleochora. The bus passes the camping gate so I suggested she might have her bag handy so she can get the driver to stop and let her off. Being dumped in Kountoura is unhelpful. She can see my location on her phone so should be able to get off in exactly the right place.

The dogs are looking in my directions so I suspect it’s time to take them for a wee-walk around the field.

Boris has had his daily constitutional, eaten his food and retired to the corner of his compound.

As a precaution, I have closed up the ends of the awning tent and dragged in anything of value susceptible to moisture. That will now absolutely guarantee fine weather. I had not expected to have to be closing up but taking down the awning tent. The front panels are already down and stowed in the storeroom. I could put them back but then I’d need to retrieve all the rubber loops which hold down the bottom. They have fallen through the gaps in the decking to the area below. I’m certainly not getting involved in that! The weather has gone a bit unstable.

I wonder what time Sophie will appear tomorrow?
