Another No-Power Day

The last day of August 2018 dawned warm and dry although I felt the dogs lacked enthusiasm. Even Luis was a little subdued when I went to extract him from his cage in the storeroom. He was wearing an e-collar having woken me around 01:00 to enjoy a little barking spree. I understood this morning why he was barking, but that’s not the point.… Read the rest

Yes! They left this morning!

Plenty of activity from the neighbours confirmed preparations for their departure. Hurrah! They left quite early which was a blessing. It has been a lot less stressful today and should hopefully be the situation now until next summer season. Phew!

Janne and Erica arrive mid-September but they are more relaxed about the dogs now anyway and the dogs with them.… Read the rest

Not-so-cool night after all

No need for a fleecy blanket in the night just a sheet was all that was required. We were up and out at 04:30, as usual, this morning and the weather was much warmer than I’d anticipated. Cooler than the previous weeks which was quite pleasant for a change. July and August tend to be extremely hot so I’m always grateful to get those two months out of the way.… Read the rest

Don’t look now but I’m wearing a fleece!

It was warm and cloudy with lots of moonlight when we went out, but the forecast was for rain around 09:00. Luis is still having problems with his rear hoof so uninterested in ball-chasing. Oskar and Charlie were the most active today.

Not wishing to remain out for longer than necessary, I decided to get back and get on before the onset of the rain.… Read the rest

Funny weather!

Cats were arguing in the night which is virtually irresistible if you’re a dog. If you don’t get in quickly and catch the first one barking, they usually all decide to join in. Not so good at 03:15. We have one resident moggy at the camping which belongs to Georgia. That is to say, Georgia feeds her.… Read the rest

It rained in August!

It was a little cooler last night so I was deeply asleep when the alarm sounded. It hadn’t rained despite the forecast but there was a gentle breeze. I let all the dogs go despite there being a car in the car park. The tent was not far from the entrance to the Promontory. My efforts at ball-throwing were met with little enthusiasm as Luis has a poor sore paw and Fido was not that motivated.… Read the rest

All off this morning! (Well, almost)

Thankfully cooler in the night, I actually needed a sheet over me at one point. The first time in several weeks.

04:30 seemed to come around very quickly despite one interruption during the night. This morning, we were all able to have a run. Except… Luis was the most active with his glowing ball as Fido seemed to have lost enthusiasm until the end.… Read the rest

91 today!

Happy birthday to my dad on his ninety-first birthday. He celebrated by accompanying my mother to Waitrose for the weekly shop. I’m sure the remainder of the day will be an endless round of excitement. Apparently, I am informed that he is quite junior in terms of the other inmates of the establishment.

The night was very warm again with temperatures around 28℃ until about 06:00 when it conveniently dropped to 25℃ as I ran.… Read the rest

Everybody up

I was asleep just after 22:30 so thought it was much later when I was woken up by dogs just after midnight. I was therefore relieved that I still had over fours hours left to sleep. I don’t know what made the dogs bark but they stopped when I asked and we all went back to sleep.… Read the rest

Gearing down…

One of my Northerly neighbours is just departing. They have a small dog and have been here for several days. The dog was a bit of a bind at the beginning but they seem to have sorted it out. My lot just eventually ignored it most of the time. Not helped by the continuing lack of serious exercise.… Read the rest

Curating

At 04:15 it was still very blowy and I jumped out of bed but then thought better of it and jumped back in again. It was a warm night – too warm despite having nearly everything open as usual.

Disappointment to find cars still parked near to the Promontory. When will these people go home? I could just let the dogs do their thing but that would entail a certain amount of barking.… Read the rest

Very draughty again

Not quite shaking the van this morning but draughty as I struggled from my pit at 04:30. Just remind me, why do I get up at 04:30? There must be a very good reason. One of them is to be out whilst it’s cool, another is to avoid all the people who are here on holiday.… Read the rest

The beginning of the end?

Plenty of departures today and some still packing up now. I shall have a better idea tomorrow morning when I look at the car park. Most of the cars I saw today had Greek registration plates although some may have been rental cars. Unfortunately, we have no statistics as to the nationalities of the customers as that would be far too clever!… Read the rest

Not quite 100℉

More cars in the beach car park meant another lead walk. The third in a row. The doggies are getting a little bit frustrated by the lack of exercise and I can’t say I blame them. There will be people around tonight and tomorrow but I reckon most will start to leave tomorrow afternoon. The camping will empty out a bit and there should be no one on the Promontory at night.… Read the rest

Another rather unsatisfactory walk

There were plenty of cars parked on the beach parking so it was another lead walk today. The dogs seemed quite calm as we stood to gaze at the sea in a couple of locations at the end of the Promontory. We were back in good time and I noticed just how much darker it is when we get back.… Read the rest

Frustrating day

It was a quiet night. Both Luis and Fido had e-collars on. Total bliss! The problem is, there are so many dogs on the camping at present, there is nearly always some sound or other to tempt a doggy reply. The others mostly keep quiet.

The Early Walk was a little disappointing as there were a number of cars parked in the beach car park so I guessed there would be people sleeping on the Promontory.… Read the rest

Progress on the online booking facility

Having been caught on the hop by Georgia agreeing to take on an online booking and back office system, I thought I’d better spend some time to find the right product for the camping. The product I initially was interested in was demonstrated online for me however I felt it might not be too easy for people to use to make their bookings.… Read the rest

Better day

I got the decking painted yesterday so it’s looking better today. Just needs another coat on some of it which I couldn’t do the other day as I ran out of product. I don’t think I need to do the wood under the canopy as that doesn’t really get the weather like the other.

I have changed the battery on my laptop so now that is working properly again.… Read the rest

Has it been a good day?

It seemed to start off ok as the wind had disappeared the night before. There was a little breeze to keep the mosquitoes at bay which however stiffened as the day progressed.

The walk was fine although extremely dark. The dogs were silent when I went out running which was good. I went to Paleochora a little earlier as I wanted to go to the hardware store to buy more teak oil for the decking which I started to paint last night.… Read the rest

Grave robbers!

I’m not sure I’ve seen the camping quite so busy for a long time! There were people still setting up their tents after 22:00. They decided to leave their car where Mikhalis leaves his truck during the day. That didn’t stay there long once he came in this morning.

I watched the first episode of a French special agent series called ‘No Limit’ last night.… Read the rest

It’s supposed to be moderating

I had little enthusiasm when the alarm went off this morning at 04:30. Luis had me up twice in the night due to the amount of activity on the camping. At some point in the early hours, some punters decided to pack up and go home. This was too much excitement for Luis who decided the wind needed a bit of accompaniment, so serenaded everyone.… Read the rest

Windy night ahead – why did I wash the floor?

It was windy this morning as I dragged myself from my pit. I was up and down in the night so didn’t wake until the alarm as I was fast asleep. I was not feeling too enthusiastic as I dragged on my shorts and turned my polo shirt the right way out.

The dogs were keen enough although perhaps a little subdued.… Read the rest

Only twenty-one days

Mikhalis announced at the beginning of the month that he had sixty days to go before he finished work for the summer. Whenever I’ve seen him I’ve updated the count which I did just now. He then told me that it’s going to be twenty-one not fifty-one days as he’s finishing at the end of August and not September as he said previously.… Read the rest

Rude awakening

The FreeLoader on the Promontory probably had a bit of a rude awakening this morning. I spotted a car in the Grammeno Beach car park but wondered if they might just be sleeping on the beach. I let Fido and Charlie go but kept the others just in case. When we arrived at the end of the Promontory I gradually let off the others.… Read the rest

Apocalypse Now!

Dimitris appeared at the gate brandishing a new tablet device which Georgia had recently acquired as a birthday gift from her entourage. She needed it set up and could I come to do it now. I explained that I do not happen to keep everyone’s password information in my head, I’d need to look it up and did he wish to leave it for me to set up.… Read the rest

New neighbours to the north

It was an almost perfect morning! I jumped out of bed, dragged on some shorts and off we went. Even Fido kept reasonably quiet for a change. He tends to get a little excited before walks. They were all quite quiet last night probably because it was cooler. Only 23℃ inside the van! It was nicer than previous nights.… Read the rest

What did I do today – not a lot!

Other than the mad dashing around this morning early, ball chasing, walking, running and cycling, it’s been a bit of a quiet day.

I did manage to vacuum and wash the van floor as well as rinse out the shorts and polo shirts I washed a couple of days ago. I decided it was too windy to hang them up at the time so they lurked in the bowl for a while.… Read the rest

Windy and hot this morning

You’d think the mosquitoes would stay at home when it’s very windy but that was not the case for all of them. One at least came buzzing around my ears despite the fairly strong wind.

A good blow always makes the dogs go crazy and they were barmy enough last night. Not helped by me dropping the lead and four of them running off.… Read the rest

Happy campers?

After weeks of hardly any wind at all, there is plenty this evening with more forecast for tomorrow evening. A good test for my roof and canopy but may end up emptying the camping. The people in tents will have a bit of a rough evening and tomorrow for most of the day. It’s at times like this that everything gets covered in a layer of dust and any papers or rubbish blows around the camping.… Read the rest

No one wanted to play ball this morning

Ungrateful lot! I ‘charged’ up their balls and not one of them wanted to play this morning. So I took myself, Obi and Princess off, balls in pocket, over the rocks to look at the sea and very dark sky. A fishing boat emerged from the gloom which caused a flurry of barking mostly on the part of Luis and Oskar.… Read the rest

Noisy Little Blighters!

I was sorry to learn that Henry passed away last night. Having lost two dogs this year I know it’s not easy to lose a friend who has been with you for so long. Fortunately, I have another seven dogs to keep me busy.

The dogs are being surprisingly quiet considering the general racket and noisy outbursts emanating from the kids on the other side of the fence.… Read the rest
