Little devil

My day has been almost non-stop.

Starting with the Early Walk which passed uneventfully, I went for a 10km run as I know it will be raining tomorrow, Saturday and possibly Sunday, so feel I should have some spare kms under my belt just in case. The challenge is for the month but today marks the middle of the month. I had a hot shower after my run and then decided not to cycle into Paleochora as there was nothing urgent from Petrakis and I can get there tomorrow anyway as I have a dental appointment at 11:00.

I was relaxing with a cup of tea when my first caller of the day appeared. It was Chris who wanted to know if I could put on some washing. He and Claire needed time to sort it out so we agreed 08:15. I continued with my tea. Just after we started the machine, the power went out so we hoped it was not a planned outage and would not last all day. Fortunately, it resumed after about thirty minutes, however it was not to be the last.

I managed to start preparing my breakfast before Xanthippos wanted me to unlock the workshop so he could collect the tools he required to repair the lower runner of the sliding gate. I ate my breakfast then went to take the washing out of the machine. Meanwhile, Peter wanted a load of washing which Olivia dealt with.

A Landcruiser arrived with an English-speaking Dutchman on a French registration plate. He called me from the office and spoke to me in Greek. As I was taking him on the tour, Monika arrived and also required attention. She had a load of washing for the machine too. I dealt with the Dutchman then went to Monika to settle her in. We agreed she’d bring her washing when the machine was free.

Maria and Georgia arrived just as I went to put Monika’s washing in the machine. The power went off just as I pressed the start button. I had a meeting with Georgia who had tripped on an uneven pavement and then inadvertently put the other leg down an unprotected drain. She has been to the doctor and is on a crutch.

She showed me the seven-seater car they have purchased for the camping and it is much better than I dared to hope for! It’s a Nissan but in good condition and very presentable. She told me it wasn’t expensive too. We talked about the shower project in the workshops and she mentioned she had just purchased the PortaLoo buildings adjacent to the bathrooms. I suggested putting showers in those having rearranged the position of the loo and basin. She thought this a brilliant idea if the measurements work out. She plans to get a replacement 300l water heater for the main bathrooms. I suggested the PortaLoos could be run from that heater and the hot water disconnected from the kitchen as it wastes so much water. I also suggested mixing the water, setting the temperature and installing push-button taps for the showers. These measures will save water and electricity too.

I had to spend time with Maria going through the accounts as she insists on writing notes on tatty pieces of paper. I stick to my spreadsheet and account for every penny. Just as I was about to take the dogs out, another customer arrive. An Australian woman who is a naturalised Spaniard. She needed the washing machine so we put on a load immediately. I walked the dogs, fed them and put them to bed. She sorted out her van. By this time, the washing was done so I could go and open up the storeroom so she could collect it.

While on the Evening Walk, I made the mistake of giving Obi the benefit of the doubt and let him run free. He repaid my trust by disappearing into the camping and winding up Georgia’s dogs making them bark. I wandered the camping searching for him and ended up giving the lead to the Spanish/Australian in case he showed up by her van which is the nearest to Georgia’s house.

I have defrosted something from the freezer and will do a quick tour of the camping whilst the rice cooks. Silly Obi!

I thought I’d do one last round of the camping whilst the rice was cooking. Just as I walked across the centre section, the nice lady rang my phone which was the signal that she had caught Obi who is now back in my custody but without any supper!
