Flooding

Contrary to expectations, the day started off reasonably dry, at least in a skyward direction anyway. We walked quite a bit around the Promontory in an attempt to catch up with the February Challenge. I was determined to get in a decent run so we went back to the camping just in case it might rain. It stayed fine and then the sun came out just for a change. I went into the workshop earlier to put on the water heater and found a considerable amount of water on the floor. Perhaps something to do with the 18mm precipitation yesterday. I’d noticed the pipes which discharge the water from the roof were not running. Later, I went into the storeroom to find water there too. I rearranged some of my stuff then proceeded to recover the ladder which had been dumped down at the bar. The roof was not draining and had a goodly pond of water which was seeping into the walls and running down the outside into the unglazed windows. I climbed onto the roof and unblocked the drainage pipes whereupon loads of water poured onto the ground below. The water was still discharging hours later but at a lesser rate as the level on the roof dropped.

I managed to sneak off for a run to Krios and had started my core workout only to be interrupted to put on some washing. This was the first of two washes of the day. I’d already been asked for tomorrow anyway and now there are already two booked in for early tomorrow morning. Back to my workout, a shower and then the second wash. Time was marching on so breakfast turned into brunch itself interrupted by a support call from Seaford Inter Sport. I finished my food and then set about installing the new till at Seaford.

The sunny day had now deteriorated into clouds, then wet: just as the second load of washing was put in. There is no drier because we generally don’t need one, so everything must be dried outside or under cover of the bar which sometimes resembles a Chinese Laundry.

More rain showers developed and then Manuel came to say he was leaving to have another attempt at getting to Gavdos. He’s decided to park up at the port overnight to be ready for the ferry in the morning. Tomorrow is forecast to be SUNNY!!!

I fiddled around with the power supply for the meteobridge as the battery one seemed not to be working. The meteobridge needs to be on battery or it loses the plot during our frequent power outages. The van batteries are now knackered so I need to consider my course of action. Replace the leisure batteries or go for a total solar system…

I didn’t think we’d get an Evening Walk but the rain stopped so out we went. We were joined momentarily by the dog belonging to the German couple with the yellow Mercedes van. She soon departed outnumbered 4:1 and could outrun them all anyway. Luis and Fido had been chasing their respective balls so were at a disadvantage.

We went back, ate our food so now I’m surrounded bysnoring dogs. Having changed the gas, the heating works and the van is warm. Exercise, food and warmth = peace!

My creation is now ready so I’m going to get to it.
