New arrival

It was dry when I went out onto the decking and not cold. I could also see where I was going which is an indicator of the days getting longer and earlier sunrise. We were on the Promontory for a good hour where we, or at least I, walked 5km. I even took my coat off and left it on the rocks. Obi was eventually released from his bondage and, like a good boy, came back promptly at the end.

At the camping, I made some tea and proceeded with the Inter Sport servers. I’m moving to get on with this project as it’s been hanging around for far too long. They are looking at a replacement EPOS product later in the year but I need to get the remainder of the system working properly and correctly configured. The present situation is messy and unsatisfactory. There is also the possibility that the old server may fall over forever!

Needing a break, I set off to do some shopping in Paleochora as I have hardly anything in the freezer and no food. My previous trip was last Friday and tomorrow could be wet.

My main task today has been to uninstall and recreate a new Exchange server as this is the part I need to get right. I carried out the original installation however some time elapsed before I was able to finish it and there were other things going on so I decided that I’d start again rather than continue with what I had. It’s not a long process if you know what you’re doing but Microsoft Exchange 2016 has moved on quite a bit since Exchange 2003 so I’ve had to do rather a lot of research to uninstall the software nicely. I could simply have removed the server from the environment but that would have left lots of untidy ends. I’ve experienced that situation previously and although it seems like a good idea at the time, it turns out very unpleasant in the long run.

I was disturbed from my servers by Xanthippos announcing the arrival of a British couple with a motorhome. They’d sent me a message on the Google website two days ago, I’d not been unable to reply but they’d fortunately arrived anyway. They are from Plymouth but have been on Crete for several months. They are approaching the end of their trip so visiting the south and western parts of the island. They settled in and wanted to do some washing which will hopefully dry before tomorrow as it’s forecast showery. I had a chat when I brought down the second load and then went back to carry on playing with my toys.

It’s turning chilly and the clock is moving on. Oskar is sitting patiently out on the decking hoping I will soon leap from my seat to take them all out for the Evening Walk. The clouds are massing and some of them look threatening. Showers are forecast for this evening too.

The Evening Walk has been and gone. Luis was active and Obi was with us all the way being one of the first at the end. My supper is cooking in the instant Pot. Tonight’s delicacy is spinach, rice and peas with a few onions thrown in for good measure. The pot is getting up to pressure as I was a little generous with the delay time which is adjustable in increments of ten minutes. I can certainly smell the onions!

The wind is getting up but should calm as the evening progresses. It is calm for tomorrow however there may be showers from the middle of the day through the night. It will be nice when all of this wet stuff disappears and we can have some proper Mediterranean weather again.

Maria called me a couple of days ago to inform me there would be arrivals for T2 today for two nights. I took the precaution of leaving the key in the lock and the outside light on as I wandered past with the dogs on the way out of the gate. Still no sign of them…
