Little Pussies

The Little Pussies are now not so little: they eat like horses and fight like demons! I watched them during their training sessions earlier and was surprised by the energy and determination of their attacks on each other. All part of the learning process which will soon be required to survive in the outside world. I’ve noticed that Georgia’s cat no longer lingers near to the storeroom. She seems to have worked out that she is now outnumbered and keeps her distance.

There was no wind this morning only a slight, and welcome breeze from the west. My new plan to keep the dogs in a less prominent location whilst out walking still requires a little polishing as too much time was wasted hooking and unhooking dogs as well as retrieving ball-throwers, balls and so on. The two men with the small boy who come to collect salt and fish the parrot fish were there today. We’d just completed the final lap so all the dogs were off the lead. Not necessarily the most convenient timing. Oskar was contributing the loudest barking but fortunately stopped fairly quickly. I’m hatching a cunning plan to curtail his barking as I think, without his input, the others would be much calmer.

There is general doggy inactivity during the day however there is a little naughtiness in the evenings before bedtime. Without an Evening Walk and no activity during the day, there is a little surplus energy despite over two hours of comparatively strenuous activity early in the day. Yesterday, the evening was much cooler so I was encouraged to put on a shirt once the sun had set. This coolness was responsible for small outbursts of doggy activity. The night was occasionally disturbed by the sounds of gunshots in the distance. I don’t think it was anything to do with hunters.

Crete is not included in the heatwave although it still seems to be quite warm!

I read there is to be a heatwave in central Europe and also the UK this week. Memories of the previous heatwave remind me of La Taillade where I happened to be at that time. It’s always hot in Crete from June – September so makes little difference here. Today seems to have become particularly windy with gusts to 55km/h (34 mph). My towel is still clinging to the clothesline and the SunBlocker is flapping wildly at times. In the image above, I have put a green rectangle around Crete to show that we are on the very fringes of the area.

Windfinder shows that it will be windy for the next few days with tomorrow being the windiest with gusts to 75km/h. There are not that many people on the camping at present so the wind is likely to drive them away. The wind makes the sea unpleasant to swim in, the beach unpleasant to be on and tent-dwelling a generally unpleasant experience. Leaves and dust blow everywhere so everything gets dusty and dirty. As if we don’t have enough dust already from the road!

I’m about to retire inside. It’s not cold as it’s nearly 28℃ just that the wind’s a bit annoying…
