Another alarm to wake me up!

This time it was at 04:00 and the UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) which helps to protect my electrical equipment form the dodgy mains. When the Grid power goes off, it also goes off to warn you. It started beeping at me at 04:00 so I jumped out of bed and pressed the button. Skinny, who was sleeping under the canopy, thought it may be getting up time so started bouncing around. I went back to bed and fell asleep until my alarm woke me a little while later.

The power remained off until about 09:00 when we were coming back from the second walk and swim. The Early Walk as uneventful, cool, cloudy and dark as there were no reflected lights from Paleochora and the clouds darkened the sky. There were no noticeable FreeLoaders despite all the vehicles in the beach car park. I only saw the larger vehicles on the way out due to the darkness and general lack of streetlights. Since yesterday, there is one additional motorhome which was parked on Alonáki Beach.

SBD, Skinny and I did a repeat performance of yesterday’s walk completing a total of 10.5km altogether plus a few minutes splashing around in the sea whilst the two dogs looked on with a kind of bored expression. We walked back to the camping just as the power came back on so I was able to make a cup of tea and put some porridge in the Instant Pot. What a scene of domesticity! People started to get up although a few were already on the beach.

The day has been pretty uneventful however the punters have been on the beach as I’ve heard lots of joyful voices from that direction. I’ve spent a lot of time trawling the Internet looking for equipment and generally keeping myself amused. It has been humid and warm with a high of 31.4ºC which is not bad considering the day started off so grotty. There is a forecast for thundery showers on Wednesday including 2.23mm of rain. Whatever next – rain in July? It never rains in July the same as it never rains in August until that time in 2015 when it absolutely poured down during the 15 August holiday weekend.

Today is the anniversary of the taking of the Bastille in Paris in 1789. The official beginning of the French Revolution and all that followed. Hopefully, it’s not raining in Paris as there will be firework displays and loads of merrymaking. I suspect tomorrow will be a holiday as the official holiday has fallen on a Sunday. The next significant Greek holiday will be in one month to celebrate the Dormition of the BVM on 15.

The celebrate the anniversary, I have just noticed the arrival of a group of young French. The spaces next to me are taken up with the German-speakers so the group have been relegated to the alternative location near to Sascha and Steffi’s caravan. Luckily, they are not here at present.

There are more clouds approaching so the possibility of some raindrops is not out of the question. The forecast still warns of thundery showers on Wednesday. From Lightningmaps.org I can see activity at the Bosphorus, Northern Italy and Eastern Europe so the forecast may actually come to pass.

We’ve had our little evening walk across the field and down towards the plastic greenhouses. There was still plenty of activity on the beach where there are cars parked all along and people bathing and generally enjoying the beach. Considering it’s 20:15 and Sunday night, I would have expected them to have gone home by now.

The dogs are fed. Skinny, Luis and Oskar are captives although Skinny doesn’t look like a dog who’s going anywhere. Luis is tied to the shelf unit and Oskar to the wheeled trolley. Both can be a little tiresome especially when there are people up close to the northern fence. Skinny just jumps over the fence! Small Black Dog has dragged his blanket onto the pallets and is now lying on the sand sleeping. Fido is behind me on the valise for the tent sides which have not yet made it as far as the storeroom. At present, everything is pleasantly quiet other than the sound of some potatoes cooking in the instant pot.
