Last hour for Μιχάλησ

I’ve just returned from the shower and chatted briefly with Μιχάλησ who tells me he has only about an hour to go before his summer stint at Grammeno comes to an end. He seems to have been more enthusiastic than he was last year, however, despite quite long hours at times, he doesn’t seem to have overworked himself.… Read the rest

Silly season now over

The group finally left last night around 22:30 for the restaurant and the bar. The music began soon after and stopped shortly before I came back with the dogs around 06:45 today.

We had a good Early Walk albeit rather windy. Yesterday, it seems, was the last of the moon which I saw just above the dawn horizon.… Read the rest

Normal service resumed – almost…

I was awake before 05:30 but got up anyway as I’d arranged with Sascha to meet by Alonáki Beach. We emerged from the field at 05:45 as arranged, to see a lone runner heading towards the car park. He turned then headed back towards the road. Sascha was nowhere to be seen so I sent him a message saying we’d go on.… Read the rest

Stitches out!

The night proceeded calmly until I woke around 05:00 as IZO (AKA SBD) needed to be let out of his house for urgent gastric activity – I know the problem intimately. If I could rely on him keeping quiet, he wouldn’t need locking in. It was much later that we went for our walk which today included the Promontory AND the rocks.… Read the rest

Still in the running despite all adversities

This may be brief

The Early Walk was to the end of the Promontory followed by a rest for me whilst Skinny and Oskar dug and Charlie and Luis wandered. Then we went back to the camping. For me, that was enough, for the dogs, at least they got a walk of some sort.

The morning was a scene of inactivity other than a beautiful little puppy snagging her lead on the gate when she went to say hello to the kittens.… Read the rest

And then there were four

I dragged myself out of bed at 06:30 to walk the dogs. The intention was to walk a lot further but I wasn’t feeling that great. I think all the antibiotics etc from last week have caught up with me. I took all the dogs. We managed three circuits and then came back. I wasn’t up for eating so spent much of the morning drinking tea and sleeping.… Read the rest

Shopping in Vlisidis supermarket

A couple of Luis squarks punctuated the night. Luis hears a lot better than me but I still don’t need to be alerted to every minor potential threat. Luis’ threat threshold is extremely low so it only requires a rat to fart in a nearby tree to elicit a response from him. He was, however receptive to my requests for cessation.… Read the rest

Guess who appeared this morning?

I took the last of my antibionics last night so now need to get down to sorting out my biome. Fortunately, I have plenty of good bacteria on hand stored in the fridge. It shouldn’t take more than a month or so to recover from the effects of the antibiotics.

We were in bed at 21:40 yesterday so certain dogs were eager early so we went out commensurately early.… Read the rest

Only three weeks to go

Some baking in the night which may have been pussy-induced. The kittens are becoming bolder particularly if there’s no food in their bowl. I suspect they were in the trees as they have taken to walking along Janne and Erica’s fence to wind up the dogs and to get my attention. The dogs rush out to bark at the pussies making it rather difficult to ignore them.… Read the rest

Somewhat lazy but also productive day

I felt the neighbours should be allowed to sleep so got up at 06:45 for the (not-so-) Early Walk. I took six, there were six cars in the Grammeno Beach car park as well as a Mitsubishi 4×4 with a roof tent. The dogs seemed very slow and dozy despite the brisk wind and the relatively cool temperature.… Read the rest

Orange moon

After my busy day at the hospital, I was glad not to be up too early. Around 07:00 we headed out onto Alonáki Beach where we met Martin in his Twingo. He’d left open the door so his three dogs wanted to come and play creating a circus for a minute or so. He put them in the car, we chatted a while, then I walked the dogs to the end of the Promontory and back.… Read the rest

A day out to the horse piddle

I had an alarm set for 05:30 but we were nearly out the gate by then. It was 6 + 2 with SBD getting a lean serving. Back at the camping, Luis was being noisy for a change. I got ready, sorted the dogs then went to the gate to wait for the bus. It can sometimes come early but today I was standing there at 07:25 when it should leave Paleochora at 07:30.… Read the rest

A busy day catching up

I didn’t even bother getting up early as I didn’t intend to take all the dogs at once. The first party went out about 07:20 walking to the end of the Promontory and back. I think SBD stayed quiet during that time. He went on the same walk with Skinny to keep him company. Taking six dogs in my left hand is fine however they might not all get on nicely if I try to put all seven together.… Read the rest

A day at the hospital

The night was punctuated by noise, lights and commotion as they tended to a patient with breathing difficulties. I was given more antibiotics at 04:30 and I got up shortly after.

My operation to repair the tendon was at 09:15 so I donned my pretty blue gown and was wheeled down to the Operating Room. They knocked out my arm and got on with the job.… Read the rest

Oops, that’s a Blighty One!

The day started normally albeit a little later. Despite starting later I compressed the same amount of activity into a shorter time. I’d prepared my breakfast and was about to eat it when I discovered there was no Internet. The switch can sometimes fail to connect so I went to the storeroom to investigate. The shelf with all the gubbins is quite high so I climbed onto the stack of palm leaves to reach it.… Read the rest

The dreaded chairs have gone

I may have mentioned that there were loads of pallet chairs which have been stacked up in the storeroom for years. Some of them were removed to form steps for the enhanced larger cabins, others gradually melted away for other projects. Now, finally, there are no chairs left, just a big gap where the stacks used to be.… Read the rest

ΔΕΗ are coming tomorrow!

Maria informs me ΔΕΗ is coming to fix the main fuse to the camping tomorrow! ΔΕΗ is the national electricity company so should be able to fix the problem. The power must have tripped out fifty times today. Fortunately, Maria has some help at the reception: the lad who was here last year and is studying astrophysics at Edinborough University is her runner so takes the punters to pitch their tents and, in his spare time, goes to reset the power at the gate.… Read the rest

And still it goes on…

I was awake a few times in the night because it was so hot. The temperature from midnight until 04:30 was mostly around 29℃. If I’d been bothered to get out of bed I could have used the fan to cool me down. It was windy at 04:30 so getting the dogs ready was easier. When it’s deadly silent, every sound seems so loud and with customers right up against the north fence I don’t want to wake them so early.… Read the rest

That spider again!

The horrid racket finally stopped at some point after 22:30 as is when I fall asleep. The volume of the music had been reduced as the evening progressed and I’m sure Grammeno customers nearer to the front of the camping must have been delighted to be able to get some sleep. Hopefully, that will be the only event like that until next season.… Read the rest

Horrid racket!

It would appear that there is some sort of noisy beach event at the Ammos Beach Bar end of Grammeno Beach. I recall a similar event taking place on a previous occasion. I’m sure the occupants of Cedar Bay Villas are ‘enjoying’ the sound more than me as at least the CBV buildings are blocking out some of the ‘music’ before it gets to me.… Read the rest

Crawling with them

It was a bit of a stressy night one way or another so I was glad to get out of bed to go for a walk. The first part of the walk as far as the car park was uneventful however things soon changed. I noted several vehicles parked, one of which I’d seen previously where the people slept inside.… Read the rest

The Boogeyman cometh

Cool but breezy was the order of the day. I believe we actually got round in a reasonable time. I was just about to depart for the first circuit with SBD, Obi and Skinny when he started fidgeting. I looked round to see The Boogeyman materialising from the darkness. No, wait, it wasn’t The Boogeyman only Kostas.… Read the rest

Still no generator

The BBQ was doing great service as I went out into the camping to use the loo around 21:30 yesterday. The whole camping appeared to be having a giant meat-fest under the moonlit sky. I used the loo, checked on the pussies, retreated inside my compound and went to bed. I recall some disturbance in the night but it was not enough for me to remember the following day.… Read the rest

Very lazy Sunday

Saturday evening was punctuated by short power outages. I do not know if they were general or limited only to the camping. Power was off for only a short while. The camping is now in busy mode so having unreliable power is inconvenient. On the other hand, the majority of the customers appear to be Greek so they are more forgiving than other races.… Read the rest

Le Generator Sur Le Toit

There was a slight disturbance to The Force in the night. Probably patrolling Random Dog. I felt hot so I picked up the fan from the decking and pointed it at my bed. In my dazed state, I didn’t check that it was set to the fastest setting but went back to bed. A couple of hours later, I turned it off as I felt cool enough.… Read the rest

Shopping expedition

Some minor incursions during the night as I suspect Random Dog is also Roaming Dog, provoking the occasional barkette from some of my lot. The Early Walk was uneventful so painless other than it was quite warm. My phone greets me with a good morning message and the current temperature which it erroneously reported as being 27℃.… Read the rest

Wake up!

We were out the gate before 04:45 and crossing the field. A couple of cars in the Grammeno Beach car park indicated the presence of someone somewhere. One car has been parked there for several nights but the other was a newcomer. Charlie had a little bark during the Second Circuit but that was on the Small Beach so I took a diversion for the Third Circuit to avoid that area.… Read the rest
