Shopping expedition

Some minor incursions during the night as I suspect Random Dog is also Roaming Dog, provoking the occasional barkette from some of my lot. The Early Walk was uneventful so painless other than it was quite warm. My phone greets me with a good morning message and the current temperature which it erroneously reported as being 27℃. At 04:30 the temperature was a chilly 24℃ but 28℃ became a reality before we were back. Having been unenthusiastic about joining the others for his trot around yesterday and being left on his own to bemoan the fact, Luis happily came along for the Third Circuit of the Promontory.

The same red car as yesterday was parked in the Grammeno Beach car park, however, there was no evidence to support anyone sleeping on the Promontory. As a precaution, Oskar as retained on the lead until we reached the sandy area and the rocks at the southern end. We returned to the camping in good order and Skinny and I went for our run. On our return, I was pleased to get into the sea but mindful of the need to get out to the shops so didn’t linger excessively.

There appears to be some progress on the section of road between Paleochora, the filling station and beyond. Curbstones have been put on the north side of the road and concreted in. Still nothing on the other side. The road surface seems a little less pockmarked than previously and lots of aggregate is being pushed around to create a more level surface. Tarmacing is still a very long way off. The guy driving the water truck which attempts to keep the dust under control by spreading water, looked extremely bored as I passed him on the return journey.

My shopping sortie was quick and painless other than the bill of €56 which, I suppose is not too bad for a week considering I’m buying ahead some items including packets of nuts and a bag of moggy food at €6 a time. But then one should not grumble at feeding four moggies for around €1/day unless you say it as €363/year when it becomes more of a reality. I was back in the camping by 09:00.

The electricity has been on and off for the past few days as Μιχάλησ and his Little Playmate try to sort out configuration glitches with the generator. It works well for me and the lower part of the camping but not the upper part. I took the trouble to look at my switching and electricity recording app today and noticed that the voltage can fall as low as 195v when on Grid but stays at around 220v when on the generator.

Not to be outdone by the electricity supply, the water supply has had low pressure all day. Normally the pressure is, in my view, excessive which is why I installed a pressure-reducing valve to protect my hoses, taps, filters and watering devices. The first two hoses were destroyed in no time until I installed the reducer. I surmise that much of the burying of pipes along the road from Paleochora is to provide a more reliable water supply at the Kountoura end. At least with such low pressure, less water will be wasted today. Having just made tea, I can report there is more pressure now.

It has been another hot day with a high so far of 38.5℃. It has also been quite humid with not much wind. That said, there was a welcome breeze on the Early Walk.

The Evening Walk was short and sweet to the agreement of all concerned. A wander across the field, down the track parallel to Alonáki Beach then back up via the two fields into the camping.

They had their meal, I watered the plants before having mine and now it’s bedtime. The temperature is still over 30℃ so it’s going to be a hot night.

Breakfast time?
