Lazy but interrupted

I thought I might be a bit stiff after my marathon cycling expeditions yesterday but everything appeared to be functioning as normal. The dogs were not terribly energetic on the Early Walk but we managed our normal quota. It was warmer than yesterday and the sky was clear and starry. A few clouds appeared later on but the morning was mostly cloudless, sunny and warm. Skinny and I managed our daily pilgrimage however I found the hills a little steeper than yesterday for some reason. The bakery provided an Apple pie for Tony so we returned to the camping. I fed the cats and went for a hot shower.

I put on my breakfast and delivered the pie to Ursula who was sitting out listening to her iPhone. I was about to have breakfast when Manolis asked for the ladder so I unlocked the storeroom and gave it to him. After breakfast, I was feeling a little lazy so spent some time watching YouTube videos about E-Bikes. I was interrupted by a call from Georgia to tell me a couple had come to the camping for some information. We chatted for a few minutes and I gave them the information they required. Their daughter is planning to stay on Crete for some while so was looking for somewhere for her van. (noises off indicate the presence of rain so it looks as though we were very lucky with the Evening Walk as I would have been less than impressed to be out in this!)

My next interruption was a woman enquiring if she could stay at the camping for the winter. I discovered that she is the owner of the van and dog combination which has been in the car park recently. She plans to travel around on Crete for a while before finding a more permanent place for the winter. (flashes of lightning and thunder followed by idiot Fido barking. He appears to have inherited the Boris thunder problem. Skinny seems to have gone to hide under the decking with Obi and probably Charlie. Oskar is in the van).

The next interruption was the cleaning lady who wanted keys to the various wooden cabins to ensure all the windows were properly closed. For this, I needed to go to the office whereupon Peter arrived to ask about a power cable as he was moving his van. (There is now heavy rain together with more thunder. Hopefully, I have everything in which needs to be in!). I gave Peter a cable reel from the workshop and suggested some location for him to park. He went to get his van and sort himself out.

By this time it was well past 16:00 and the appointed Teatime. I adjourned to Ursula and Tony’s cabin where we took tea inside as the weather was cool and intermittently showery without. I stuffed more cake and drank two cups of tea before leaving to help Peter with his electricity setup.

It was now almost dark and the dogs had not been walked since morning. The sky was very dark and forbidding so I wanted to get the walk underway and completed as soon as practical. (loud thunderclap nearby and the unmistakable smell of ozone – Skinny must be quivering in his boots. Fido is silent under my chair next to Luis who is unperturbed). There was some light precipitation during the walk so I cut it short so we could hurry back for food and shelter. As things turned out, it was a good decision. (Power is still on despite the storm so nothing vital has been struck so far. I have scheduled this blog post in case all the power goes off so you’ll understand if it appears to stop mid-sentence)

The rain began shortly after I fed the dogs but now seems to be quietening down. The main storm is over the sea towards the Libyan coast so we’re just experiencing a few random claps of thunder and associated rain. The forecast is 0.86mm of precipitation until tomorrow morning but already 7.4mm has fallen. The forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday is for over 30mm at present. (more thunder in the mountains to the northwest)

The rain has almost stopped but there is distant thunder to the north and south. I might make a cup of tea whilst there is electricity. I hoping Antonis will soon come to install my solar panels as his work should now have quietened down.
