Xanthippos returns

A little windy out on the Early Walk as we passed the German Motorhome now spending its second night in the car park at the Promontory entrance. Other than plenty of flashes from the distant lightning, it was quite gloomy thanks to the passing clouds. My Blitzortung software repeatedly sent me warnings of approaching storms but they all passed harmlessly by. I felt it would be impossible to manage the run in the dry but I was wrong as we managed to return dry other than from water already on the road.

I showered and prepared breakfast having made a cup of tea. I sat down to use my computer to discover there was no Internet connection. I went to discover the reason to find that the power was off everywhere. I then remembered that Manolis had warned me of a scheduled outage presumably to repair some of the damage caused by the storms last week. This work was initially scheduled for last Wednesday but that turned into another, quite damaging, stormy day too. My breakfast was therefore not cooking so I decided to fire up the generator which resides just inside the main gate. A wander to the reception to collect the keys for the generator and then off it went when I pressed the button. I then had to switch over another load of breakers in the workshop which manually connects the various circuits to the generator. I could then resume the Instant Pot and use my computer. Unfortunately, the generator does not power the office or other buildings so I have to use my phone to connect to the Internet.

I was just finishing up my breakfast when Louise called from EG so that we could set up her new computer. I’d sent her an email postponing our session until the afternoon however she decided to call me without first reading her mails. We agreed to resume at 14:00 when the power would be back on.

Shortly after, Xanthippos arrived with his henchman to carry out some work near to Georgia’s house. I mentioned that her living area was flooded out during the storms so she had decided to build a gully to deflect the water away from her residence. Xanthippos and his mate were there to do the work however the supplies they needed hadn’t yet arrived. With an audience to play to, Xanthippos chuntered on about how annoying it was blah, blah, blah!

I went for a chat with Peter and had a go on his mountain bike, the one he was thinking of selling. We have now come up with a cunning plan to convert it to an E-Bike as it’s a high spec machine which must have cost a lot of money when bought new. Peter is considering getting a 750watt mid-drive conversion kit which would certainly give him plenty of power. One problem is where to put the battery as most of the normal locations are incumbered with other items such as the rear suspension actuators and so on. It is a well-specified bike so worth upgrading to an E-Bike. I had a go on it and found it very easy to ride and can see that it would be a flyer once converted.

I spent much of the afternoon updating Louise’s new computer having finally managed to connect to it via TeamViewer. I have also installed Office 2019 which is a bit more of a performance due to Microsoft’s new security and installation methods for enterprise software.

Xanthippos’ truck of materials finally arrived so he and his little friend amused themselves making sandcastles out of sand and cement. He was rambling on about the mixer not working too. They both finally disappeared around 16:30 leaving me in peace.

We were a little late going out for the Evening Walk as I was waiting for Luise’s computer to update so that it could be doing something useful whilst we were out. With the stormy weather, the dogs are crazier than usual so life became stressful as darkness began to fall and we’d still not set off. Halfway across the field, I spotted a pickup parked in the gateway leading to the beach road so we did a quick about-turn and went out via the camping main gate. It was just a guy waiting for someone not loading or unloading sheep as I suspected. The walk was ok but was hardly stress-free.

It’s still very warm and there is quite a bit of rain forecast over the next few days.
