Winter has come!

I almost needed a coat when we went for the Early Walk today. We made it all the way to 04:25 today without having to go for a wee which is an improvement from 02:30 – 03:30! It wasn’t really worth going back to sleep but I went back to bed.

The Early Walk, other than being on the fresh side, followed the same procedure as the previous days. I was glad to be back but was not looking forward to running as not only was it windy but it was cold too. I wore an extra layer and Skinny and I set off for Kountoura.

Following a lovely hot shower, I made my breakfast and put it in The Pot to cook. I was hoping to avoid another excursion with Isabella but she was lively and had too much energy so I took her and Luis for a wander around the Promontory. Luis spent most of his time elsewhere but appeared when it was time to go back.

The morning was not loaded with activities so I spent some time reading the newspapers. Only one support call which eventually resulted in nothing.

Isabella had boundless energy so I took her for a wander around the camping to visit everyone. When I say everyone, there is Peter and the Swiss couple. They are always pleased to see Isabella and the other dogs are always pleased to have a break from her! Our walk included a trip to the office and a chat with Peter about where to put his van. He’d discovered that the location near the bar/restaurant has advantages such as a decked area however it receives no morning sunshine making it very unwelcoming on a day such as today. Peter has since removed himself from there and migrated to the place I occupied for my first six months. The area near the bar is good to get two vans in anyway so him on his own was taking up a little space.

The sunshine was great but the wind cold so I was pleased to get back to the van to some warmth. All the dogs fell asleep either inside the tent or van so we all enjoyed a little snooze including Isabella as she was now suitably tired.

I spent a little time online studying VPNs. These are Virtual Private Networks which encrypt your Internet traffic and make your computer appear to be in a location other than your physical one. You might wonder why this might be necessary and the answer is simple. Many services are now connected to your geographic location. The ones that spring to mind are BBC Iplayer, Channel 4 and so on. There are also free streaming sites in US but these can only be accessed if you’re in the US. The product I was considering allows you to choose which country you wish to appear to come from so that you can connect to services as if you’re in that location. Another advantage of a VPN is that your Web browsing in anonymous as your apparent Internet address is concealed from your true location and the company operating the service is registered in Panama so not required to keep any records of its customers’ activities. Many governments and companies keep records of browsing activity giving them the opportunity to use this information in ways one might not wish. I’m now able to appear anonymously on the Internet as well as to easily take advantage of iPlayer, Hulu and other streaming services. The VPN service also checks for malware and viruses as well as stopping annoying popups! To add to security, I paid using cryptocurrency which avoids exposing cards to the Internet, is completely anonymous, untraceable and VAT free!

The Evening Walk was brisk as it was still blustery and chilly. The sun had set but we were able to get over the rocks and return to the camping before it was completely dark.

My feet are cold, it is windy and my supper is ready. I’m going inside where it’s warmer!
