A quieter day

Apart from a little light rain, the Early Walk was perfect. We were back before 07:00 so I decided to take my bike for a spin towards Paleochora. The road is stillI only compacted so there are plenty of potholes and bumps as a result of all the rain. I wanted to try the podilatodromos or cycleway which follows the main road. So far, only the last few metres are concrete but it’s not much worse than riding through the mountains on tracks. I then went up the mountain close to where Georgia’s mum, Martha lives. Her apartment overlooks Paleochora and the Libyan Sea. The road starts off quite steeply but settles down to a more sensible gradient. I started off with plenty of energy and speed. I also used quite a bit of engine support especially when it began to rain. The rain intensified so I turned back towards Paleochora and rushed to Petrakis. It was raining hard at this point so I arrived looking like a semi-drowned rat. I did my shopping, put my purchases in my bike bag and set off towards the port as it had now stopped raining. From the port, I could see another squally shower was imminent so headed back towards Grammeno. I was riding as fast as I could, pouring on the power with the throttle too. I didn’t care about running down the battery as I was on the homeward stretch. Once the new road is complete and properly surfaced, it will be a really fast ride to town.

I unloaded my shopping, made some tea and started to prepare my breakfast. The dogs were stretching their legs outside. I knew Zaher would be coming in from Paleochora so wanted time to eat my breakfast and get things ready for his meeting with Georgia.

Georgia turned up early for our meeting with me acting as her interpreter(!). We covered all the basic and went to look at the two rooms. Manolis and Lisa still have some personal items to remove but Lisa said it would be fine for me to start to get it ready. I checked the aircon/heater unit with Georgia and discovered it only cooled and not heated. She will purchase a replacement from Chania but Lisa left an electric heater for them to use in the meantime.

I had a short support call to deal with so went back. It was sunny at this point however the day has been a mixture of showers and sunny intervals. Other than a trip to the office to collect a parcel for Peter and pay the cleaner, I did little else. Around 15:30, I’d had enough so we all retreated inside the van to be in the warm! There will be no Evening Walk as it’s raining and thundery. Very yukky weather.

I plan to make something to eat then vegetate in front of the box!
