Probably one of the wettest days

There were rain, wind and thunderstorms all night. At 05:00 it was raining hard and the dogs were not moving. Even Isabella remained inside the van all night albeit in front of gas vent in the ill-fitting door. The rain continued and I stayed in bed. Only Fido was brave enough to go outside for the quickest of pees. Eventually, I got up as I had things to do. It was still raining: probably some 50mm in seven hours. I contemplated the idea of going to Kalamos with the dogs then decided it would be too early, too cold, too wet and too windy. I went up to Manolis to tell him not bother to wait for me when he went into town to visit relatives later.

I eventually managed to get my breakfast to cook despite the power going off and resetting the Pot each time. I went to check the hot water tank to find the boiler wasn’t working so I turned on the immersion heater. Anyone brave enough to use the main bathrooms in these conditions deserves a medal. There is no glass in the windows, tiled floors and its very draughty. The WC/shower cubicles are marginally better as the floors are wood and they are much smaller with no windows, just a louvred door to provide ventilation.

I took Isabella out onto the Promontory as she was busting with energy having not been exercised for over twenty-four hours. We’d not gone far when Heike called to ask if I was bringing the dogs. I replied that I’d emailed to say I couldn’t get there and thought maybe the session was cancelled due to horrid conditions. The vets had run out of animals to neuter so she said she’d come to Grammeno to pick us up. This she did in her own car whilst dropping off loads of tins of dog meat. I suspect we’ve had this meat before and I ended up giving it all away as it gave the dogs the trots! All will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Skinny and Isabella were the only members of the queue so were quickly on the table whilst I waited in an adjacent room. People came and went bringing cat boxes and taking cats away to their owners or to be released. The weather was relentlessly horrid. The masts I’d visited the previous day were almost invisible as cloud covered almost everywhere. It was a persistent, fine, driving rain.

The dogs were now semi-conscious and ready to depart so Rick, the treasurer, took us back to Grammeno. His experience this time was better than the last when he ignored my recommendations to stop and let Missie out to perform important functions. These dogs were confined to the boot anyway.

Skinny and Isabella were put inside the van with the heater on. I first turned it on around 10:00 as it was 12℃ inside the van. It’s been on for quite a lot of the day. Lucky I changed the gas cylinder a couple of days ago.

I sat inside with them and caught up with some emails before falling asleep. Mr Lawrence called to tell me his computer had contracted a nasty popup malware which was driving him potty. I had a go at removing the malware when he went to lunch but to no avail as I discovered later.

I took the Brown Dogs and Oskar for a walk. Charlie didn’t seem interested so I didn’t press him. It was a fairly brief walk as it was raining. We got wet and blown about but the dogs ignored the weather and raced around like crazy. Even Obi managed to be one of the first back at the end.

All, except Obi, are inside having been fed. Obi was left with the empty meat tin in his self-imposed solitary confinement under the awning. All we need now if for my food to finish cooking and we’re good to go!
