Paleochora x 2

Another alert message arrived on my phone with its usual noisy fanfare. Poor Skinny was definitely unimpressed. The lockdown has entered a new, more determined phase as it would appear that others have not been taking the matter seriously. We now have to produce a document stating the reason for our journey which must be only from a list of six possibilities. At present, we’re allowed out for medical purposes (doctor, pharmacy etc), grocery shopping (if delivery is unavailable), visit a bank (if electronic transaction not possible), to get help or help others, attend certain ceremonies (baptism, marriage or funeral), exercise or walk the dog (maximum two persons).

One can either get a text message or fill in this form for each event. One must also have ID.

No doubt there will be a policeman waiting to check my form as I take the dogs for their walk at 04:45 tomorrow.

We had our usual Early Walk. It was mild, windless and uneventful. I was keen to get back as I wanted to go shopping and visit the dentist. The shopping might have been avoided however I was keen to visit the dentist which I should have done ages ago. Just that there seemed to be more pressing and important items on my schedule.

Petrakis supermarket now has latex gloves and a numbering system which allows a maximum of ten people to be in the store at one time. There are also lines on the floor to keep customers away from the counter displays so you have to stand and shout to order your requirements. It’s all about meat, cheese etc so my only interest would be olives which is a more summery requirement. I did my shopping as others wandered in and out of the store. Some put on gloves others did not. Some took numbers, others did not. Enforcement is not a high priority it would seem. I went back to the camping to get my breakfast in the Pot then back to Paleochora for the dentist. They are only treating emergencies. I was asked if I was an emergency to which I replied I probably wasn’t. So I went into the surgery, he inspected my tooth, took an x-ray and recorded my details. Apparently, they are not supposed to take appointments at present so he’ll give me a call when he’s able. I can go back if the situation changes. The tooth had a crown, still has its root and is also filled. The crown fell apart, the filling needs removing so it’s a bit of a job. He’ll decide what to do once the filling is removed with the nerve. Joy! At least it should be a lot cheaper than in UK but not €50 as all other treatments have been so far!

I went back for breakfast and a little relaxation following all the exercise. The dogs were lazing in the sun as it was nearly 20℃. There was little activity in the camping although Xanthippos was to be seen wandering the camping entrance with his phone welded to an ear. I suspect we may be moving towards the demolition of the boundary wall and entranceway. Another job to keep him busy. I’m not sure that supplies are available as there have been no deliveries lately. If Polychronis is able to deliver there’s no reason why he can’t bring some metal for my solar panels.

I chatted to the no longer solitary German lady whose husband managed to make it back to Crete yesterday on the last flight. I’m not sure they plan to go anywhere immediately although I understand it might be possible to get on a ferry for a oneway trip to the mainland as it’s no longer possible to travel to the islands.

I kept myself busy doing this and that and the dogs slept in the sun. I took them out at around 17:00 for the Evening Walk which was very pleasant. We crossed paths with a couple of burly ladies who looked to be up to no good with a trident on a long pole. Hunting squid or octopus I should imagine.

All is now calm as the dogs have been fed. The pot has finished cooking so I may adjourn inside for my evening repast.
