RIP pussy

The rain started as expected and carried on throughout the night continuing beyond Early Walk time. Once it finally stopped, I managed to get all the dogs out for two trips around the Promontory and had set off with Skinny and Isabella to complete at least two more. The weather forecast had warned of rain with a probability of 100% and it wasn’t wrong just that the quantity was more than expected. We set off but turned back as we reached the road beyond the field as the gentle rain turned more serious. As compensation, I put Skinny in the van with the others and fed Isabella, meanwhile I sat down with my laptop before getting a cup of tea and preparing breakfast.

The rain continued for a while so I kept the others inside. Later, I went for a wander to the loo forgetting to close the large door on the van which gave Skinny the opportunity to disappear for much of the day. The morning remained cool and grey but livened up in the afternoon with a little sunshine.

Other than a long conversation with Ursula on the phone, the day was taken up with a series of insignificant events. I wandered the camping to inspect the German washing left drying after my marathon wash yesterday. The rain in the night had not helped with the drying process. I’ve not seen the Germans today but their Monster Truck is still parked in the Grammeno Beach car park.

The pussies were marching up and down causing Luis to get excited so I went in to feed them. Only three reported this morning so I was wondering where number four might be. All was revealed when I discovered his body laid out in the entrance to the Former Boris House. He showed no outward signs of trauma or stress and even the injury he received a couple of weeks ago had virtually healed. I plan to put him next to Dave and Boris after dark assuming it’s not raining all night. He was a very friendly and affectionate little chap and the one who adopted Janne and Erica. I have informed them of his recent demise. His death is a mystery.

The mother came for some food later so I gave her a bowl outside on one of the tables as the nursing mother is more than a little protective of the storeroom at present. I’ve not as yet located her kittens which I suspect are somewhere amongst the huge stack of leaves. The fluffy mother, her remaining offspring and the additional cat surrounded her as she ate.

Fluffy mother with her two remaining offspring and extra (right). The offspring will be one year old in three weeks.

As I was taking the photos, Skinny wandered past the storeroom so I let him in with the others. Isabella made a big fuss of him: lots of licking and kissing! He put up with it all without protest. He’s curled up in front of me fast asleep as he’s spent most of his liberty period playing with IZO and the German’s dog on the beach. His periodic barking livened things up for the others as they supplied moral support as well as backing. I don’t mind if they bark as they are a little deprived of exercise and there’s no one nearby to complain of any noise.

Amongst all my little activities today I’m still playing with my battery bank. As I don’t have solar panels on the roof at present, I have to charge the batteries from the mains. This is not an entirely economical process as there are losses in the inverter and the charger. The upside is that my power supply is uninterruptable as well as without sags, dips and spikes. I’m using these charge/discharge cycles to set up the charging profile so that I get the most value from my battery bank. The LifePo4 batteries are very tolerant of most things however will last much longer if properly nurtured.

Xanthippos was to be seen briefly in the camping, phone clamped to his ear as he rode off on his fiery steed: no doubt reporting into HQ. I inspected his tiling in the bar which I note is almost finished and grouted.

The sound of an empty meat tin confirms that Chalie is busy extracting the final morsels. Giving it to them saves washing it before crushing it for recycling. Luis is asleep to my left, Fido in front with Skinny. The others, except for Charlie are probably in the van. My supper has plopped and I’m quite keen to go in to eat it. Charlie has just joined Luis and is under my chair.

Yesterday morning just after sunrise
