A more relaxing night

I thought I was watching the last episode of the first series of Broadchurch. I started the series over a week ago and have been watching an episode most nights. I was ready to see who had killed Danny Latimer to discover I was at the end of episode 7 and not 8. I will have the pleasure of discovering his killer this evening instead. My next viewing was Defending Jacob who has now been accused of killing his friend so is in police custody.

It was a little warm to be watching TV inside even with the fan which runs 24/7 inside the van. The large fan was still on all evening and remained so until I went to bed later. I’m glad the sun supplies my electricity and I don’t have to pay the bill anymore.

I’d made some adjustments to my hammock to level it up, put a cotton sheet and a pillow ready for later and zipped it up to prevent unwelcome flying visitors. I’d climbed into it, got comfortable and drifted off to sleep when I was woken up by Luis and Fido barking from within the van. Fido, sensibly, shut up when asked but Luis, despite several requests, continued to defy me. I struggled out of my hammock which requires some care seeing as the zipped side overhangs the decking. Just stepping out carelessly would cause me to fall off the highest side of the decking into the area next to the Sail Shade. Not recommended when one is half-awake or half-asleep for that matter!

I went to the cupboard, pulled out the smallest e-collar then went into the van to attach it to Luis. I returned to my hammock and enjoyed a peaceful night’s sleep until I awoke to pull a sheet over me as the temperature had fallen.

It was cooler this morning so our walks were a little more active. I counted seven cars parked in the beach carpark and spotted another on the way out. I didn’t expect to get very far on the Promontory for falling over FreeLoaders in the darkness. We walked the east route to the end of the Promontory not seeing a single body. I dropped off four dogs but knew where the people would have to be so plotted a course to take us back down the east side with a little variation. I didn’t see the point in attempting to go along by the Small or Big Beaches.

When we were done with the first walk, I took them all back so that Luis and Charlie could partake of the second walk which would be up the river for sure seeing the number of punters and their vehicles scattered around on the Alonáki Beach road. One guy was sleeping in the back of his car with the tailgate open. Only Isabella was off the lead as I knew we’d be crossing the road later to avoid the chasm created in the river bed by the extraction of material for the base of the road.

We actually stood outside the gate of the concrete production facility whilst the vicious guard dog within howled and ripped at the chainlink fence attempting to reach the dogs outside. I wonder if the owner realises his dog sits benignly as people and dogs stand outside the gate and peer in? I won’t tell as he’d probably get a salary cut! He looks happy enough and has a reasonably long chain but his life must be pretty boring there.

Our walk up the river valley was reasonably uneventful. Isabella and Charlie tried it on with a couple of unpleasantnesses they picked up but our conversations ended up with the items being left behind which was the main thing. There were a few goats about as we went a little further today. Charlie and Isabella went off piste a couple of times but returned to the track when asked. Luis followed along huffing…

We went back via the sea route and stopped a while so the dogs could splash about in the water. There are some muddy bits up the river which I didn’t need dragging back to the camping so were washed off as they bathed.

Charlie stayed in the SDC but Skinny and Luis, still wearing his collar from the previous night, went into the van while I went for a swim.

The sea was calm with just a few waves by the shore. I swam around for about twenty-five minutes. A far more proficient swimmer came into the water and did the front crawl following the route taken by Ursula when she is in residence. He was a strong swimmer and didn’t hang around but just swam and swam.

With the swimming and additional walking my Move Circle was almost closed so I had another day off from cycling as it was so hot. I enjoyed the early sunshine and then released the dogs from the van. I made breakfast and then fed the dogs.

There was a distinct lack of serious activity for the remainder of the day as it was another warm one with a high of 35.4℃. Not as hot as Saturday and cooler with a low of 22.4℃.

The only business-related activity was a phone call from Terry. Otherwise, apart from the Doggy Dinners, the remainder of the day drifted past unhindered.
