Spaniakos revisited

The morning walks were a little shorter as I wanted to get away and up to Spaniakos. We carried out the Promontory section of the walk promptly and were doing well until I remembered my T-Shirt, controller and head torch left dangling on a branch where the dogs had been left. Despite Luis’ protestations, we did an about-turn, a bit like the UK Government, and went back to collect them.

There was a brisk walk to the river whereupon I let most of the dogs go and we walked up the river bed and under the road bridge. We didn’t go much further before turning back to pass BullDozer Man’s sleeping machinery. Another brisk walk along the seashore brought us back to the camping where I left all but Charlie and Isabella inside. I fed the cats before mounting my steed to head off towards Spaniakos.

The forecast mentioned it would get progressively breezy as the day wore on. The wind is predominantly from a northerly direction so I had it blowing against me as I pedalled up the Kandanos Road. It took 48 minutes to get to Sascha and Steffi’s new residence but only 25 to come back. Something to do with the wind and gravity being on my side.

Sascha was out walking Zora so Steffi gave me the tour before sitting down for a cup of tea to admire the view. The site is now very presentable with fine walls creating wonderful terraces transforming the site from their first visit around a year ago. It was worth the wait and far easier to do the work and to then move the van into position.

The trees have been cut back offering marvellous views out to sea, of the mountains and Paleochora. There is no escaping the relative height which my workout app reports is 381m. The aspect is generally southwest so the sun appears around 10:00 but lingers quite late in the day. What it would be like in winter I don’t know.

We chatted and discussed trees and shrubs before I finally tore myself away to go back to the dogs who’d been in the van since 07:00. My app reported my arrival back at the camping as nearly 11:00! I’d planned to visit Petrakis to order cat food but that was postponed as I was later coming back than intended.

I fed the dogs immediately as they’d been waiting patiently for my return, hopefully, not that there’s anyone vaguely near me at present. I made breakfast then tried to catch up with the day.

Fortunately, there was little work other than an email account reset and other fiddling about. By the time I’d had breakfast, it was past midday so the rest of the day got mislaid.

I was about to prepare the Doggy Dinners but fell asleep so again, fell behind with my schedule. The upshot was a manual depressurization of the Pot in order to speed up the operation which resulted in having to clean the lid.

The dogs are now fed and Isabella is chasing around the bowls convinced one of the others just might have left her something. The wind is quite strong but will become ever stronger tomorrow morning which will lead to an interesting start to the day is the forecast pans out.

Each bowl has been visited a number of times. I’ve had the backs of my hands licked as I type at the keyboard as well as my knees licked. No one wants to play with Isabella and Charlie has been spared her attentions because I’ve shut the gate to the SDC so he can relax on his own. The dogs are unsettled by strong winds and are probably aware of the changes in conditions although most are either sleeping nearby or have gone inside. Obi, quite sensibly, spends his time under the decking where Isabella now finds it difficult to go.

Georgia exclaimed that I had a new dog when she visited yesterday so was amazed to learn the cute little puppy had evolved into a much bigger ‘puppy’. At last, Oskar has rescued her and is showing some interest. Whether he’ll be bothered to play is another matter. Her habitual after-supper playmates, Luis, Obi and Skinny are all out for the count!

The stray cat with the fluffy tail has put in an appearance resulting in a definite disturbance in the Force. Following a barrage of barking, the aforementioned moggy has retreated to a safe distance. This disturbance entice Obi from his lair so Isabella was able to have a brief play with him until he tired and resumed his post beneath the decking.

Once the camping is empty and I’m on my own, I’d like to take Skinny and Isabella out onto the Promontory sometimes so they can chase around together and wear each other out properly. I feel it would be a release for both of them.

My spicy lentil and beetroot supper is ready and Skinny has gone inside the van as he at least has declared the day officially ended. So shall I…
