Difficult day

14mm rain fell between the afternoon and midnight yesterday. A further 10mm has fallen today. These amounts are far in excess of the forecast. Today has been generally wet and cool at least it’s not been windy and I was able to walk the dogs and get the shopping before it started.

I decided last night that it was finally necessary to break out the blankets which I’d conveniently sealed at the bottom of a long vacuum bag which contained sets of clothes I washed and packed away for cooler temperatures. I’m hoping the weather will recover again so I don’t have to go into winter rig too soon.

I really had no desire to get up at 04:55 so allowed myself a further thirty minutes in bed. The whole crew were given no alternative but to go out. We started on the Promontory with a quick run over the rocks beneath a mostly starry sky then headed east down Alonáki Beach.

I stopped a couple of times to marshal the dogs as it was difficult keeping tabs on them due to the gloom. Skinny was virtually bumping into my heels at one point and hardly left my side. I had to give Charlie a big poke as his deafness returned when I was getting him across the field and into the compound.

I went racing off to Paleochora ahead of the rain. Petrakis was not very busy so I was quickly out and on my way again. I engaged hyperdrive on my bike for the return journey as it was just beginning to rain. I was able to get back and bring the shopping in without getting too wet.

Considering the horrid weather, the dogs have been fairly well behaved but it has not been a calm day. They were quiet whilst I was working and mostly when I was out on the camping. A new arrival from Austria was in the office when the rain came down yet again. He left me there and raced over to his van to find his own way to his chosen spot. I waited for the rain to subside before going back. I had things I could do anyway.

Much of my day has been taken up with IT tasks, mostly for EG although there was a call from Inter Sport and a few emails with LBS. I’ve been moving on with the EG website with Pablo, my man in Spain. He’s going to deal with moving the image folder and all that entails. We’ve discussed regular site testing however he wants more than I’m prepared to offer for this so I’ll let him stew a while whilst I refer to a ‘higher authority’. There is another problem with a couple of the WordPress sites which is also taking up time. It’s all about websites at present. This is the future so we need to get it together as everything is moving online. The Guild cannot survive in its present form for much longer.

My Swiss couple upgraded from their little tent to Z6 have requested to stay on and the young German couple who paid yesterday and were preparing to leave today are staying another night. The Czechs (as in in the post) went into Paleochora once the road reopened and must have been very wet as it poured down on them. Fortunately, I discovered the hot water boiler had gone off and the water was only around 25℃. Not ideal on a cool, wet day. I know several wrinkles to get the boiler going so managed to coax it back into operation. I even contemplated a shower myself but I live with a load of smelly dogs so probably smell no worse than they do. So long as I keep social distancing with the customers…

I was a little late preparing the Doggy Dinners but they and the multitude of cats have been fed. I was chatting to the young German couple by their van. Gradually, the cats approached so we ended up surrounded: I eventually gave in and fed them.

I’m now inside the van surrounded by six dogs as Obi still considers it warm enough to remain outside albeit on a folded, fleecy dog blanket on to of foam tiles and a wooden floor. He’s fluffy so will be warm enough.

I have spinach and potatoes to go with some tomatoes and so on. I’m already falling asleep and that’s before supper so I suspect I need to watch something very gripping tonight then go to bed under my warm blankets.
