Luis 1 : Rodent 0

Part of my evening entertainment was an episode of Ironside followed by Going Straight, the sequel to Porridge. Bedtime arrived soon after and all was quiet until around 04:00 when Luis scurried towards my end of the van. There was some Luis growling and then a rodent squeak. This was followed by an ominous silence. Luis patrolled around for a while then everything was silent again. Our rodent visitor may think twice before making another visit.

We started our Early walk at 06:05 and quite quickly made it to the end of the Promontory and back to Alonáki Beach. [It’s now raining hard so I had to close the tent having brought in the bowls from outside] It was still dark although dawn was doing her best to the east.

A stormy sky with a hint of orange.

After a brief stop to organise the troops before Plakaki, we continued on to the navigable end of the beaches where the sky looked even blacker. There were a few raindrops so we set off back towards Alonáki Beach. By the time we reached the Promontory, the weather looked more benign so we completed our second Promontory visit and then back to the camping.

All the dogs were inside as I prepared my breakfast so I had plenty of little doggy helpers. Another load of washing went in for the Estonians, this time all of their sports clothing. [Lound thunderclap from the southeast – Skinny has now become a close friend. More thunder rumbles off in the distance]

I wanted to try to find my missing dog remote so checked all of the branches I’d taken down the previous day and relocated them further away as there are likely to be more. I didn’t find the controller but have added the other dogs to the six-dog controller. I continued with my cutting and dragging until the wash cycle had completed enabling me to take the washing back to the Estonians who were rigging up a line in the restaurant area undercover of the roof. I waited for them to finish with the bucket then headed back to have my breakfast.

The forecast had predicted rain at 11:00 and it started on time. I closed up the tent then ate my breakfast. Most of the dogs had retreated inside. It rained for about an hour and then I was able to resume my tree-cutting activities.

Other than a walk down to inspect the sea and make some food for this evening, most of the remainder of the day was taken up with trees and other little jobs.

Mauro and Franca joined us for the Evening Walk. A few drops fell as we entered the Promontory and we succeeded in traversing the causeway across the rocks with dry feet. Fido was on the other side busily investigating the rocks so needed to be supervised for his personal crossing of the causeway. To avoid any suspense I can report that his little paws remained dry. I managed to get the dogs back and fed before the evening rain fell as foretold by the forecast.

In all, there have been 6.6mm precipitation so far. It’s not been or felt cold although the rain inevitably lowered the temperature. The easterly wind changed to become more southerly so the sea is running up the Grammeno Beach but is quiet on Alonáki.

Showers are forecast for Monday.
