Night walk

I loafed in bed until nearly 06:00! I’d left my glasses by the sink as they were so dirty I washed them but didn’t remember until I was already in bed. I just couldn’t be bothered to crawl out from under the insect net to get my glasses, wet them again and dry them off.

I was able to contemplate All Creatures Great and Small which I’d just watched which was preceded by an exciting episode of Spooks which was MI5 Vs MI6. All terribly gripping!

It was soon light, as we were out later, which made it easier to keep track of the dogs. We’d walked the Promontory and been to the end and back but it was still around 08:00. We met no one on our second Promontory circuit which is hardly surprising for a December Sunday morning during lockdown.

I fed the dogs as soon as we returned, started my own breakfast then got on with the Doggy Dinners. I put a load of clothing in the washing machine as the week ahead looks rainy and unsettled so I wanted to have spare sets of clothes.

Breakfast was followed by hanging up the washing then a trip to the office to plug in one of the EPOS card machines as it needed an update. The machines had been secreted away to prevent people from seeing them and paying by card. I was assisted by the large, fluffy male cat who spent much of the time winding himself around my legs and purring loudly. He used to be a bit of a pain due to his aggression toward other cats. That seems to have been cured since there’s now plenty of food for all. The large ginger cat arrived outside and began his usual wailing routine which usually culminates in a fierce battle between the two males. The ginger cat is invariably the aggressor. One of the major causes I’ve discovered is jealousy. As soon as I started to pay more attention to the ginger cat, he settled down and rolled around on the ground playfully. I have absolutely no confidence in him, unlike the other male who I can rely on to remain playful. The ginger cat has a great set of teeth and big claws which I’m very careful of. The machine updated so I closed up the office and went back to the dogs.

It was then I noticed that Marie-Christine’s car and caravan were parked by the entrance gate. I picked up her spare car and caravan keys to return them to her before I forgot I had them. She plans to leave before 09:00 tomorrow so wanted to have everything ready and has elected to spend the final night up by the road. I went back to collect the 49€ she had coming as she’d paid one month in advance. We chatted a little while before I wandered down to the beach to enjoy the sunshine on one of the loungers. Franca came past for a swim so I watched her swim up and down a few times. She was not hanging about!

The Doggy Dinners needed processing so I went back to the van to get on with that. It was then I remembered the washing on the line which needed to be brought in and folded up. I also had to put on some rice and prepare food for myself.

The Doggy Dinners were completed. Some of the clothes were folded up and put away but the remainder are in a heap on the chair. I put on rice and prepared something for myself. Time was getting on so I went down to see if Franca was up for walking the dogs. I suggested we walk along Alonáki Beach to admire the waves, the intention being to go to Plakaki and back again. A similar length walk to the end of the Promontory and back. Instead, we walked to the practical end of the beaches and back again. It was now getting dark but we saw the figure of Mauro who decided to join us as he’d completed the meal preparations more quickly than expected. Together, we walked along Alonáki Beach and we turned off into the field leaving Franca and Mauro to go back via Grammeno Beach. Franca and Mauro were concerned that some of the dogs might be missing however I reassured them it was unlikely any would go astray at suppertime.

The dogs are fed, Isabella is snoozing on the floor nearby, my food is ready so I think it’s time to call it a day and go inside to eat it.
