Extra, extra time

The alarm is now set to wake me at 05:55 as there seemed to be little point in waking up at 05:30 to set another alarm for 05:55. Isabella was quite calmly lying down when I opened the van door but was happy to follow me out as she needed a wee I suspect. The others were still asleep or pretending to be.

We were out by around 06:20 so it was getting light by the time we’d completed one circuit of the Promontory which was helpful as it’s so much easier to keep track of the dogs when I can see them. Obi was having special attention as he absconded yesterday and I don’t want him to get into the habit now that it’s happened twice. Life would be much easier if Isabella wasn’t quite so heavy-handed with Obi and Charlie.

Crossing the river when it’s flowing into the sea involved a long jump from me and a swim for the smaller dogs. Skinny and Isabella simply jumped over it in a single bound. We continued on to Plakaki and beyond. The other river wasn’t flowing into the sea.

On the way back, the river seemed to be a little wider so I had to take a run at it so as not to get my feet wet. The smaller dogs got wet again. One more circuit of the Promontory and some time spent on Grammeno Beach and the car park on a litter pick. The dogs enjoyed scrounging around at the water’s edge whist I amused myself picking up litter. The usual array of plastic bottles, plastic drinking straws and other general littler. The nice dustmen had recently emptied the large wheelie bin so it seemed a pity not to use it.

It was around 08:45 when we arrived back so I fed the dogs and got on with my breakfast and the Doggy Dinners. This kept me busy until 10:15 whereupon I was able to connect to the laptop I was trying to work on last night. My breakfast was ready so I could take that out and put in the DDs then get on with eating.

It was around midday by the time I’d eaten and had a little time to sit down. I’d been meaning to clean the CCTV cameras for a while as it’s particularly difficult to see things at night. I carried the ladder up to reception to do the two cameras there having done the one on the storeroom on the way. Next was Janne and Erica’s van. I put my ladder up against the wall below the camera and set about cleaning it. Then there was a phone call for Hindhead Computers: a man wanting to know about replacing the keyboard in his son’s laptop. Fortunately, he didn’t want me to come out to do it! I was about to get down from my ladder when the phone rang again. This time it was Inter Sport in Haywards-Heath. Having dealt with the missing database problem I finished cleaning the camera lens then sat with one of the young cats who was sprawled out on the roof of Janne’s trailer which is parked under the camera.

I carted my ladder down to the camera outside the kitchen where I proceeded to cut back some of the long eucalyptus branches and leaves dangling down in front of the camera. These are particularly annoying at night as they reflect back the infra-red light which provides night vision. Nikos walked by so I was able to use him as ballast and to stand at the bottom of the ladder for me.

The Doggy Dinners were ready so I occupied myself putting them thought the cutter ready for later. I put on some rice for the dogs and some potatoes for me then took the dogs out for the Evening Walk. Franca and Mauro had already sent a message to say they were not coming as they’d just returned from a bike ride so wanted a shower and something to eat.

The walk was uneventful as there was no one around this evening. We walked to the end of the Promontory, crossed over the rocks and then the causeway without anyone getting wet. The wind is southeasterly and the waves are fairly strong.

As the blog title says, we are in extra, extra time: The latest official date for lockdown to end is 7 January 2021. Or February, March or perhaps April.

The weather’s not looking too special from tomorrow afternoon through the weekend with around 100mm rain forecast over those days.

As for today, it has been a little mixed but has remained dry and reasonably sunny but not cold.
