Smelly Fish-Dog

Dr Cameron is retiring leaving Dr Finlay with his young partner to run the practice in Tannochbrae. The Government intends to introduce a health service available to everyone which Dr Finlay supports to the derision of some of his colleagues. The young partner saves the life of a little girl whose more experienced doctor had misdiagnosed. It was all happening in Tannochbrae. I’m not watching the original, 1962 version with Bill Simpson, Andrew Cruickshank and Barbara Mullen but the one thirty-one years later with David Rintoul, Ian Bannen and Annette Crosbie.

The sea crashing onto Grammeno Beach provided a harmonious background as I drifted off to sleep.

The weather forecast promised a fine Early Walk which is what we got. Isabella was scratching so I took the time to give her and some of the others, some flea treatment. Consequently, it was almost 06:30 as we walked towards the Promontory and past 07:00 as we crossed over in front of Plakaki.

We’d had to ford the river where it crosses the beach. After deliberation, I jumped over followed by the smaller dogs who swam or waded. Isabella and Skinny were the first over. The second river didn’t even have any water other than that which the sea had pushed over the shingle.

We spent a few moments on the rocks at the end of the beaches watching the waves running up onto the shingle.

Waves running up Grammeno Beach

We headed back, across the river, for another tour around the Promontory. Skinny discovered some smelly fish so decided to roll in it to become a Smelly Fish-Dog. With a southerly wind, we were not able to walk across the causeway in the dry so we amused ourselves by climbing up the cliff and down again on the steeper side. Only Obi, Skinny and Isabella made it down so the others retraced their steps to go the other way around to meet us on the sand. I found myself alone when Mauro arrived causing the dogs to mob him. We sat on the rocks whilst the dogs fooled around then Mauro went over the rocks to dodge the waves on his own. We set off back to the camping as the time was getting on. I felt it worth making good use of the fine weather as we might not get out again.

I fed the dogs and prepared my breakfast. The sky clouded over and it looked like rain. I ate my breakfast, answered a few emails and watched a couple of YouTube videos. The rain came as expected so the dogs retreated into the van to hibernate. I dealt with a couple of IT tasks, wandered up to check the mailbox and down again to look at the sea. There were not too many of the punters around as it was still raining slightly and not too warm.

The weather produced some sunny intervals in the afternoon so my batteries received a little charge. This weekend of rainy weather will show how long I can survive without drawing on Grid power.

I put on the doggy rice and prepared something for my evening meal. Franca joined me for the Evening Walk which was brief due to the approaching weather which we could see dropping water in the distance. There is the possibility of more rain forecast for this evening however tomorrow morning should be fine. I intend going into Paleochora for some shopping as I suspect Saturday will be rather too wet for trips to Petrakis.

Not cold but interesting clouds and sea conditions. The 5mm of rain was dragged out over several hours.
