No heating

In the evening, I didn’t even bother to put on the fan heater as it was so warm inside. The dogs generate quite a bit of heat so that was sufficient for the evening’s entertainment time. We went back to 1960’s Yorkshire with Heartbeat: an exciting episode which included sheep rustling and a visit to London for PC Rowan to attend an interview for a job with the drugs squad. The night ended with intergalactic excitement with The Mandalorian on his quest to find others from his order so that baby . Lots of voracious spiders hell-bent on destroying the spacecraft and its occupants. Inevitably, he and his passengers got away after some near encounters.

It’s definitely getting lighter in the mornings as I had no need for my torch when we set off just before 06:30. There was hardly any wind and it was mild so I removed my hat after a while as well as rolled up my sleeves. Our walk was almost uneventful until I lost my footing whilst hopping across some rocks, the same rocks as I hop over almost every day. I jumped down but put out my left hand to correct my balance which I did on a previous occasion when tripping up the steps to the van. The first event had pulled something which had been getting gradually better, until today. Interestingly, all the dogs arrived instantly from nowhere obviously fearful I might have injured my food preparation arm! I sat for a couple of moments with them fussing around before continuing on my way to finish the walk as usual.

I’d decided to go into Paleochora to pick up some groceries as Thursday might be very windy making cycling that exposed route unamusing. When the bill came to €42 I realised I might have bought more than a couple of items after all. I like to keep ahead and not to run out of things as stock control at Petrakis is less than perfect sometimes with items unavailable for a week or more. The taxini, dried fruit and 500g of black olives all bumped up the bill.

There is progress on the road project so long as you know where to look. There is still plenty of dust and mud to endure as well as bumpy bits. I noticed even more lengths of recently-welded plastic pipe by the road so wonder when they plan to dig it all up again!

I unloaded the groceries, released and fed dogs and then prepared my breakfast having removed all but my T-shirt and summer shorts as the temperature was rising. It was turning into another glorious day with not a cloud in the sky. The birds were happy too as I could hear a blackbird chirping merrily in a bush nearby.

My left Dr Martens boot required some attention as it had become jealous that I attended to the right one on a previous occasion. The sole had become unstuck in almost the same locations as the right one. I glued it together and it’s currently residing between a couple of UPS boxes. That’s Uninterruptable Power Supply as opposed to United Parcel Service. These are heavy boxes containing batteries and transformers and were used before I installed my own electricity supply. They now make excellent heavy weights for keeping things together whist the adhesive sets.

The remainder of the day included some IT support activity, a chat with Nikos and some general wandering around. Georgia called to have me take a photo of the water meter as her solicitor is dealing with the water company which insists on charging huge amounts for unmeasured water. Why they cannot rely on previous consumption I know not.

The wind got up as the afternoon progressed but it wasn’t cold. We went out around 18:15 to discover the German couple with the van and the little boy who were here a couple of months ago, are back again. They have toured the island so have come back to stay on Grammeno Beach.

We chatted as the dogs ran around the beach madly, cheered on by Georgia’s dogs from within the camping. We eventually went for our walk under the moonlight which was a good thing as I’d forgotten my headtorch.

I understand Greece and England may be having a special relationship so that British tourists can come here to spend their money. The EU is unhappy about this proposed arrangement as they don’t like the idea of states making special arrangements.

A first prototype creation to keep track of the doggy remote collars so that they don’t fall on the floor, they are not left switched on and all are accounted for. I’m aware there are only six but I ran out of hooks for the seventh as there was a change of plan from the initial concept.
It was a magnificent day with plenty of sunshine and warmth. The top temperature exceeded 22C.
