A warm night ended at 05:00 with Luis making a racket in response to some yowling cats. I asked him nicely to be quiet then went back to sleep until almost getting up time. It wasn’t quite so warm outside but I could have done with one fewer layer as I discovered later. It didn’t take long to get the dogs ready and feed the cats so we were on the road well before 06:00.

Darker than yesterday morning around the same time

In contrast to the previous day, the sky was extremely cloudy so it was still quite dark. Not dark enough to require a torch as I could see enough to not end up sprawled on the ground. All of the dogs reported for biscuits as we reached the end of the Promontory so we continued over the rocks and back towards Plakaki along the road.

More than just a little cloudy

I noticed that some sheep had carelessly chosen the moment of our approach to exit the field onto the track ahead of us. The pace of the dogs quickened and Luis and Obi thought it a good move to race after the sheep with some of the others following. However, the two of them soon agreed, in conjunction with the others, that chasing the sheep was a frowned upon activity. Cats are fair game but sheep not.

Some dogs explored the now dried up river bed whilst others continued up the beach. I stood at a vantage point to see that all finally would end up together at the rocks by Plakaki. There was some explorations, biscuits and the walk continued back to the Promontory.

Dogs exploring at Plakaki

Back on the Promontory, we seemed to be short a couple of dogs so I clambered onto some rocks which afforded a good view of Grammeno Beach where I spied one brown and one black dog heading towards the gate into the camping. Strangely, and all of a sudden, these two changed their minds, altered course and were to be seen racing back to where the others were waiting. Maybe, they thought their collars didn’t work that far away…

We all made it down to the end of the Promontory for more biscuits and then back to the camping. Skinny found himself on the field side of the closed gate so I had to let him in. The others had come back together for a change. I notice that the dogs are usually pretty prompt at getting back in the evenings although it might be something to do with the fact they get fed after the Evening Walk.

I rode to Petrakis where I bought some tomatoes, beetroot and courgettes. After a brief chat with Yiannis about the weather, I mounted my steed and set off for the camping. Yiannis was telling me he wants to run 20km sometime during the weekend so was asking me about the weather.

I released and fed the dogs before preparing the Doggy Dinners for later. Today is an alternate day so fasting until the evening.

A phone call later from Georgia warned me the water would be off for an hour or so as there was come guy from Chania who would be fixing the meter and conducting other wizardry with the plumbing.

By this time, the day was still cloudy but not warm. A situation which continued until the afternoon when there were some sunny intervals enough to produce nearly 4kWh: more than would be used during the day for various cooking activities. The water resumed and Elias visited to show me leaky shower hoses. Together, we wandered over to the new, external showers which are switched off anyway. We nabbed the hoses from the cubicles to fix the defective ones in the louvred cubicles with the wooden floors which are used more frequently.

I was overwhelmed with the desire to test one of the showers was working correctly so came back to collect a towel for my investigation. I wasn’t sure how much hot water there was as the day had been dull however my shower was quite hot enough.

Invigorated by my shower, I heated up the oven to bake the underdone loaf from yesterday and to bake the small one I knocked up quickly earlier as a trial. There are some aubergines baking at present and I cooked spinach and beetroot earlier. It’s been a cooking day which accounts for the electricity usage. The doggy rice has also been done and the battery is still at 65%.

I made up my evening repast which I’d decided to consume before walking the dogs although I have some banana bread for later.

The wind is getting up as predicted by the forecast and I can see that it’s going to be windy for most of tomorrow and the first part of Monday.
