It was slightly darker as we were out a few minutes earlier this morning.

Looking southeast from Alonaki towards Paleochora at around 05:40

The Early Walk was generally without incident as I returned with a similar number of dogs as I left. Oskar wandered off but was persuaded back into the fold with the help of some remote wizardry.… Read the rest

It rained!

I was sure I heard the sound of rain on the roof during the night but then I went back to sleep as the idea of getting up to bring in the items from the washing line evaporated. Indeed, I thought it might even be raining at getting up time – but it wasn’t.

I was out of bed before 05:00 and we were out of the gate around 05:15.… Read the rest

The van from the previous day had gone although there were two others a little further up. It was a warmer morning without the wind so I left my fleece on a tree branch whilst we walked to Plakaki and back.

All the dogs managed to be at nearly all of the biscuit distribution points almost together and they stuck with me most of the time.… Read the rest

SousVide

My bed was clinging to me so it was 05:00 before I was on my feet and out of the door. The moon was there to greet me and there seemed to be little wind although I fell on the side of caution and put on a thin fleece.

A van was parked opposite on the beach and a car was in the car park so I proceeded cautiously as there might have been someone camping out.… Read the rest

Isabella was outside again last night and remained silent too. Only Skinny was pottering around wanting to come out to be with her. She didn’t stay out of the SDC very long as I shoved her in there when she tried to play vigorously with Obi and Charlie. That way, it takes half the time to put the collars on the other dogs.… Read the rest

The Earthquake stayed outside last night and was quiet so it was not her scratching that woke me, just the alarm. Furthermore, I didn’t get me feet licked just Skinny’s paws on the side of my bed.

It was a little after 05:15 today so the moon was higher in the sky and appeared to be fuller.… Read the rest

Full Moon

At 05:15 the Moon was heading towards the western horizon but I thought I’d take a couple of shots to see if any came out.

I kept the dogs together so there were none missing at any point. We encountered Kostas on the way back but saw that he’d been around by the trailer and coils of plastic pipe laying near to the cave where he usually stashes his pump.… Read the rest

Cooking

It felt decidedly cool as we strode across the field towards the sea at around 05:15. The Swiss caravan which has been parked on the beach road for the past few days has disappeared as have all the others along the beach and the orange tent on the Promontory.

I seem to have had problems keeping the dogs with me this morning: Charlie, who showed up for the first lot of biscuits at the entrance to the Promontory, right at the start of the walk, was not seen again.… Read the rest

Lazy Sunday

Isabella and Fido needed to go out around 02:00 so I was up for a few moments but continued my slumbers until it was time to get up.

I hung my light fleece over the branch of a tree when we walked to Plakaki as I was too warm with it on. All of the dogs managed to arrive at the end of the beach for biscuits today so we walked back together.… Read the rest

I baked a frisbee!

It was lighter when we approached the Promontory as I was a little slow to get going this morning. It was not windy but the air was still cool so there wasn’t much hanging about on my part.

It was properly light when we walked up the beach towards Plakaki: Skinny had disappeared into the distance but was there when the rest arrived.… Read the rest

The Case Of The Missing Cat – Solved!

There was a stiff breeze and it felt cool. I’d been awake for a little while since a certain Fido required to go out for a wee at 04:30. I let him and Isabella out and adjourned to my pit once more. It wasn’t long before Fido requested to come back inside however I was disinclined to leave my pit again considering it would soon be 04:55 and time to get up anyway.… Read the rest

I was pleased to get to bed as the latter half of yesterday was quite hard-going due to the oven incident.

I was out of my pit before 05:00 as I was awake then anyway. We had a good start on the day so I didn’t rush back to give the dogs longer to mooch around.… Read the rest

Dimitris

The day started off quite reasonably but there were some unforeseen developments. The Early Walk was mostly uneventful other than Charlie taking his time at the end.

I rode into Paleochora just for the joy of it and forgot I needed tomatoes until I was halfway back to the camping.

Maria asked me to help her to scan some documents for the new employee taken on for the season.… Read the rest

Busy day

Our Early Walk was very enjoyable and uneventful as I came back with the correct number of dogs. There were some lovely colours in the dawn sky however they never really come out properly in a photograph.

I made up the first part of the Doggy Dinners before riding into town to Petrakis to get some more items for them.… Read the rest

E&J arrive

Isabella will not be allowed outside at bedtime this evening as she woke me up early barking at some cat or other distraction. I quickly shut her up but it disturbed my slumbers.

There was a clear sky as I walked towards the beach bathed in the dawn light. Only Oskar was a little late coming back at the end so the walk was uneventful.… Read the rest

Luis’ turn

The cars parked in the beach car park belonged to a couple of tents moored on the east side of the Promontory well out of the way. They were in such a hurry, there were no dogs for biscuits at the first call, only at the end of the Promontory where Luis was absent.

What surprised me was that he was still absent at the third point.… Read the rest

Miss Fidgets was scratching and wandering around at 04:50 so I even contemplated getting up but got only got as far as contemplating. I was dressed and outside wrestling Isabella into her collar before the alarm actually went off. She insists on moving around and is distracted by the smallest thing so keeps turning her head almost constantly.… Read the rest

I tidied!

The morning started with Isabella scratching so I though there might be an earthquake with the amount of shaking and rattling. I got up and we were out shortly after.

The Early Walk went smoothly with finesse so we were back at the camping in good time. I fed the various cats, did some washing up and had a cup of tea before my departure for Petrakis for some light grocery shopping.… Read the rest

Some rodent activity caused a certain amount of disturbance during the night. Initially, the aforementioned rodent sat on the van roof munching then moved his activities to the awning roof finally going down into the compound to cause mayhem there. Charlie, Obi and Isabella were outside so they chased the intruder and did a little barking so had to be shouted at.… Read the rest

Free at last!

I got up at 04:50 because I needed to: the dogs seemed full of energy so I got dressed and we were out walking across the field and on our way. Unsurprisingly, it remained darker for longer so Skinny disappeared into the darkness on Alonáki Beach but kindly reappeared when at Plakaki.

We were on the second circuit of the Promontory at 06:35 when the sound of a motorised tool of some kind rang out across the water from what appeared to be the direction of Houmas.… Read the rest

Black Brain Mould

Another blowy night followed by a windy Early Walk. I was in a thin fleece as it was milder today but it was still hard work walking along Alonáki Beach to Plakaki. Charlie managed to find a delightful package consisting of a used nappy which he eventually relinquished so that I could deposit it in a nearby waste bin.… Read the rest

Relaxing

It was extremely blowy when I got up briefly around 04:00. I explained to the assembled multitude that it wasn’t quite getting up time so they could go back to bed. All gone

I woke at 05:00 so got up to make a good start to the day as nearly all of the punters would be leaving. It was windy so I added a layer before setting off at 05:30. Receptionist again

Apparently, our group in T1-T3 were playing music at 01:00 and it was reported to be intrusive upon the sleep of those within earshot. Despite the van door being open, it didn’t disturb me. The group are good customers and are reasonably behaved so I won’t mention it unless there are other comments.

Our Early Walk passed without too much excitement.… Read the rest

Invasion

There was some fidgeting in the night probably as it was cooler. We went out for an Evening Walk so they were not under-exercised. We were out of the gate and walking into the field at 05:35 but it was still possible to see quite soon after. There were no particular events other than a trio of young people who’d spent the night sleeping on the beach outside the camping and who came to go snorkelling off the Big Beach.… Read the rest

Fun with the booking site

There was no one around when we went out this morning only an abandoned car on Alonáki Beach which has been there since the weekend. Is it August?

For some reason, I decided it was going to be cooler this morning so put on a thin fleece. It soon became apparent that ‘cool’ wasn’t a problem so I discarded my fleece when I gave the dogs their togetherness biscuits at the end of the Promontory. To reduce any anxiety, I can report that my fleece was still on the rock when I went back for it later.… Read the rest

Goodbye Elias and family

I wasn’t late to bed again as the day had been warm and I was running around quite a bit. My un-energetic morning swim may have contributed to my general lassitude. I managed to watch the remainder of ‘Yes Minister’ I’d previously slept through.

There was a dog barking nearby during the night which caused some limited echo-barking from within.… Read the rest

First FreeLoaders of Spring

There was no Evening Walk last night as time was getting on and there were still quite a few people out and about due to the fine weather. I found myself falling asleep so retired to bed at 22:30 well before the church-goers would have been back.

The morning was warm so I had only to drag on a T-shirt and shorts which makes the whole getting ready thing so much quicker.… Read the rest

Our Early Walk was a little bit earlier as we were up at 05:15 and out just under thirty minutes later. It’s slowly getting lighter earlier so getting up time gets slowly earlier.
