Καλό Μήνα!

The eastern sky was clear so the morning was bright and light.

Those little clouds above the mountains hung around for a while

I had to gather the dogs up as, at one point, I found myself walking alone which is always a little disconcerting. Eventually, Obi, Luis and Fido appeared beside me and I called the other dogs to me. They were there very quickly so were nearby and behaving nicely.

Moments later, I doled out some biscuits before continuing to the end of the Promontory where all of the dogs quickly arrived as I rattled my plastic container. It was now light enough to easily see the rocks and to not fall into any holes.

There were difficulties seeing the whereabouts of Isabella and Skinny on Alonaki Beach when they are a long way off but fortunately, they are mostly reliable so soon reappear.

It was very pleasant walking back from Plakaki. Skinny and Isabella were having a great time chasing birds so must have run the length of that beach several times. Fido tried to run with them at one point but soon concluded he wasn’t going to be able to keep up. The others just carried on sauntering along minding their own business.

I made some tea then went to the office to see why the WiFi controller software wasn’t working. I found Maria at her desk browsing the Internet.

I then rode into Paleochora for some shopping and then back to Maria to set up some web shortcuts for her. I asked her how things were going with the New Boy at which point she told me that ‘he talks too much’. Maria is an expert so she should know.

I fed the dogs and then indulged in a little repose once the shopping had been put away. Most of it went in the fridges in the Customer Kitchen since they are both on at present.

Later, I wandered up to the reception where I found I was alone until the New Boy arrived and introduced himself. He lives in London and has a Russian partner and they have a little girl. He seems a nice enough chap but I felt Maria rather had her nose out of joint. I decided to pay her special attention regarding her IT requirements. I moved the office phone and tidied up the mess of wires. The Windows computer I put on top of all the other devices clearing the desk.

Maria had been complaining of neck stiffness which related to posture and the height of her screen. I suggested she should have a larger monitor that we could have off the desk to give her a good viewing angle. She needed a keyboard so I cleaned up the Greek one which was on the Windows PC and set that up for her. Hopefully, with some additional attention she shouldn’t feel so marginalised.

For the rest of the day I have spent a lot of time with my nose in my computer playing with the network as well as the Booking Site. I think I shall develop it as the replacement winter website which will superceed the inadequate Google site which has been around for a couple of years and is very basic.

If I’m going to go to all the effort of developing this template, it might just was well perform a useful service even if it’s not adopted as an online booking site. I can create different pages which can be swapped around as the seasons change.

I popped next door for a chat later on and it has been decided we will go for a meal at Anydri before 11 June when Erica and Janne plan to leave Grammeno. They fly from Ηράκλειο a couple of days later but wish to spend a night in Matala and then one near the airport.

In just under three weeks it will be the Summer Solstice as today is 1 June. I was wishing everyone καλό μήνα this morning. They seemed a little surprised even though it’s polite to wish everyone a ‘good month’ on the first day. I think they just didn’t realise it was the first of the month!

Warm and sunny with some light wind. There’s still some chilly air about
Monthly summary for May with the warmest day so far this year and only 0.8mm right at the end of the month
