Replicating maggots

Contrary to expectations, it was not blowy during the night despite the predictions of the forecast. However, there was an interruption due, I suspect, to a certain pussy causing Oskar and Luis to produce a barrage of barking in the dead of night. They were suitably told off and I even got out of my bed to ensure Luis was aware of my unhappiness. Otherwise, the night was reasonably peaceful and there were no close neighbours who might have been affected.

The maggots had replicated and even changed colour. The motorcycle was in the same position, the bulk of the maggots were neatly arranged out of the way, at the entrance to the Big Beach. The additional maggot/s was further down the beach and was definitely alive as there was movement. The dogs were vaguely inquisitive and I think Skinny had ideas about saying hello but thought better of it.

We continued down to Plakaki expecting to see Skinny far in the distance or at least waiting for us. He was not to be seen although the others were there as expected. It has been known for Skinny to be found asleep on the back seat of the van so I guessed that was where he might have been.

We completed our second loop but leaving out the Big Beach due to the maggot infestation. Back at the van there was no Skinny and Charlie had also gone AWOL. Isabella was to be found the wrong side of the gate into the camping having decided to go through the gap in the fence. She didn’t even take the opportunity to eat up all the cat food in the bowls in the storeroom. She must be slipping to have missed such an opportunity!

I put the remainder of the dogs in the van and wandered through the camping in search of Skinny. Charlie has been known to return somewhat later so his tardiness was unsurprising. Tony said he’d seen Skinny at the top of the camping which was my next stop. I didn’t find him so abandoned my search and went for a swim before the wind got up.

No sooner had I entered the water was there a squally gust, the water become rough and sand blew across the beach in great clouds. One of the cats which had been watching me, fled for shelter from the sand. I continued my swimming but changed course to mitigate the effects of the waves. I didn’t stay in that long as it wasn’t such a pleasurable experience as on other days.

As I came back to the van, I let in Charlie who’d also not eaten all of the pussy food in the storeroom. He wandered off to do his thing and I set about making some bread as there was none.

As I rode out on my bike, I looked for Skinny and even went down by the beach to see if I could find him. In any event, he’d not go far and would come back soon enough. I rode into Paleochora and did a quick circuit via the port where someone was petting puppies at the PAWS site. I didn’t stop as I wanted to get back as it was steadily becoming windier. The wind was generally on my back as I rode westwards so my return was quite rapid.

The Australian woman with small Russian son, was nearby as was Skinny who’d been awaiting my return and had used the opportunity to eat all of the pussy food in the bowls in the storeroom. I chatted a little while to the Australian woman but was interrupted by a call from Maria to tell me that Tony had found Skinny. I thanked her and said I had Skinny and had spoken to Tony.

I’d not stopped since getting out of bed so sat down to Elevate my mind. Time passed, I woke up and fed the dogs before making some tea and tending to the dough which needed the starter adding to it and decanting into a loaf tin. It’s amazing how much liquid rye and oats will absorb as I was sure it would be too sloppy.

From here on, it became very windy so it was fortunate the sun blocker was already down. There was plenty of dust flying around so now everywhere and everything has a fine coating of dust and grit.

The day drifted by, there were no support calls. I looked at suitable templates for a new website for LBS, conversed with Michael in the office and put back the floor tiles when they blew away. The wind gusted to 71.6km/h at 15:54 and it’s likely to remain windy until at least Sunday.

Georgia eventually caught up with me to ask why she couldn’t see the CCTV cameras. I explained that she had to use her own WiFi or she would not be able to connect. She told me of a friend selling a house in CHANIA and wondered if I might like to help with the sale perhaps with a little marketing in the UK. I agreed to talk to the nice lady who owns the property to see what she has in mind.

The wind has now subsided so the cicada are chirping noisily and the leaves and branches moving much more gently. I’ll move some of the grit and dust but not worry too much as we have a couple more windy days to come. It’s been so calm recently a little wind is unsurprising.
