Gotta get connected…

I watched the final part of the Swedish drama set in a prestigious boarding school where the Swedish Crown Prince was sent to study. He became attracted to another [male] student and it became public knowledge. Most of the actors were young so I thought it was sensitively and well done, especially the leads.

In complete contrast, my next item was to Hill Street for another exciting day in the life of the Metro Police.

The morning was again cooler but not dark due to the angle and fullness of the moon. We walked the usual route but lost Charlie who we found wagging when we got back to the van just after seven. Surprisingly, Isabella went AWOL but caught us up on the Promontory. Somewhat out of character for her but it’s not the first time.

Back at the ranch, I put the dogs inside, meditated at length, exercised my brain then left for the mountain top above Panorama where Kostas appeared to be admiring the view. He asked what I was doing up there and I replied that I was there purely for exercise. He saw me come back down only a few minutes later. He was probably asking himself why on earth someone would wish to flog all the way to the top only to come straight back down again. The mysteries of life…

I needed some shopping and promised Stephanie a visit for a cup of tea before her departure to UK so needed to make progress. The shopping was relatively painless and quick and I rode straight back for tea.

We drank tea and chatted then I left to release and feed the dogs. There was also the small matter of the Doggy Dinners to attend to. At least I managed to remember potatoes and carrots this time. There is also a generous portion of the cabbage which has lurked in the Customer Fridge for a couple of weeks. I eventually sat in the sun with a cup of tea and drifted off.

The UK mobile telecoms networks are going to start charging for roaming in the EU and elsewhere from January 2022 but later in the case of EE. Most are adding £2 for each day that roaming is used potentially increasing my monthly phone bill by £60 to £76.50! This would assume I used data when not connected to WiFi. The alternative is to turn off data roaming which would be fine so long as I’m connected to a WiFi network. If it’s the same as before, charges for roaming are only when calls are made/received or data consumed. Once the £2 is paid, I think you can use as much as you like until midnight GMT. As I can make outbound calls using Viber over WiFi, I would pay £2 only when I receive calls. If all incoming calls are received on the same day I’m laughing but I suspect that’s unlikely. Before the UK joined the EU roaming agreement I think my airtime bills were around £35/month which is about double what I currently pay.

The alternative is to port my UK number to a service which works over the Internet and allow me to make and receive unlimited calls to UK for £8.50/month. If I wanted to make and receive calls whilst away from a WiFi network I’d need to pay around €5/m for a Greek data service. I think more research is required.

Other tasks included processing the Doggy Dinners and messing with the controller setting on my bike.

It’s been a warm day but I don’t know what the temperature was as there’s been no WiFi so no data transferred by the clever device responsible for that task. There is still no telephone or broadband Internet as I write. Hopefully, this will be repaired tomorrow.

The weather looks stable until the weekend however next weeks appears cloudy and unsettled.
