Wet Feet II

I was awoken to the sound of rain upon the roof above my head but went back to sleep as it was too early to be getting up. I studied the forecast before quitting my pit to reassure myself it was the wisest thing to do. According to the forecast, there might be a chance of an insignificant amount of precipitation during the time of the walk.… Read the rest

Only Eight Years

The night was very warm with a high of 24.4ºC – like summer but in November. We set off after five with me wearing a t-shirt, shirt and light fleece. The shirt and fleece spent most of the time hanging in the branches of a tree in the car park.

It was very dark as the sky was overcast so the moon was nowhere to be seen.… Read the rest

I fell asleep in front of the box which was hardly surprising as I felt tired before I ate. I managed to watch Martin Shaw as Inspector George Gently – a brief journey back to the 60s. It was only around nine but I was soon asleep once in bed.

We were out the gate just after five and across the field to find a rather surprised man who was surrounded by dogs with flashing collars.… Read the rest

New Arrival

It was only when I was in bed that I remembered Fido hadn’t been out for his evening Piddle Excursion. He reminded me of this fact at 02:55 when he started wandering around. Still, he was fairly quick to return and I was soon asleep.

I consulted Windfinder and WU before departing my pit to reassure myself about the weather.… Read the rest

Chania Goes Amber

The CoVID situation in Greece and Crete is not improving. The Chania region has reverted back to amber from yellow and much of Greece is now at Level 5. The new varient from the south of Africa is concerning.

The night was windy and not without other disturbances some of which was down to me. The doggy water bowl inside the van is not that capacious especially when Isabella comes inside to drink and then splashes about 400l of water all over the floor.… Read the rest

Happy Thanksgiving!

Once the alarm went off, Isabella got the fidgets so I let her and Skinny outside as I felt she might have an important mission to attend to. It wasn’t long before I was outside and we were saddled up and ready to cross the field and head to the Promontory. Only the Austrians were present in the car park.… Read the rest

The Finns return

Having looked at the weather forecast I felt it might be wise to wait to see how things turned out so we left somewhat later for the Early Walk. Skinny and Charlie were still flashing and there were no vehicles parked in the beach car park. Something to do with the fact that the Austrians were spending a night at Grammeno Camping.… Read the rest

Goal achieved!

Surprisingly, it wasn’t raining as I expected nor did it rain during the night. The sky was overcast but the moonlight still made it through providing a general level of light which was just about usable. The Italians and Austrians are still sharing the car park. Skinny and Charlie are still flashing although Charlie has been recharged.… Read the rest

Two more…

Only the east and west ends of Crete remain at Level 2, Rethymno has moved from Level 3 -4. Most of the mainland is Level 3 -5.

I tried to convince Skinny that the last of the mice had been evicted but he’d have none of it. He spent his time sniffing around the heater or poised near the food cupboard.… Read the rest

Only one month…

I was woken by the sound of a mouse trying to get out of the trap I’d set in the cupboard which used to be the bathroom. The aforementioned was relocated to the end of the Promontory with the other 500 or so mice I’ve deposited there through time. There should be a population explosion soon.… Read the rest

Boomerang

I was later in bed as I was playing with my laptop and cruising the Internet. I believe it might have been later than eleven! Luis didn’t want me to sleep for long as he kept growling at Oskar. He was on the seat where Oskar wanted to go. I’d warned Luis earlier for his noisy and aggressive behaviour towards Oskar so this time I got out of bed, opened the van door and ejected Luis into the chill of the night.… Read the rest

There were two reasons to be awake at 02:55. One was an important mission on my part and an equally important mission for Fido. At least I didn’t have to go outside for mine and he was quick to return!

There were plenty of stars and no need for a torch as it’s full moon so plenty of light in the mornings as long as the sky’s clear.… Read the rest

Maria came to visit

Despite chucking Fido out at bedtime, he wanted to go out again around 03:00 which is my favourite time of day for standing in the van doorway. At least he had the goodness to return promptly.

With both flashers recharged it was the turn of Skinny today. I discovered he’d taken a little diversion to the back yard of Azzuro until I summoned him.… Read the rest

War wound

I found myself in bed around 21:30 as I’d skipped the last part of the program I was watching about the International Space Station (ISS). There is a series which follows the crews as they take turns in the ISS and carry out repairs and maintenance to the experiments. The ISS has evolved over time and consists of two main habitable parts one operated by the Russians and the other by the USA and other countries.… Read the rest

Rather wet

The sound of puking dog woke me at 03:55 so I jumped out of bed to enable the perpetrator to perform outside. It appeared that there wasn’t much puke to be seen which was a bonus. I managed to get back to sleep once Skinny, Fido and Isabella had come back inside the van.

A look at the weather showed that it would be dry until about ten when the rain would set in for the day.… Read the rest

At 04:30 I was awake but not quite ready to leap out of bed so I loafed until the alarm announced the new day. It wasn’t long after that we crossed the field and went towards the beach car park where two vehicles were parked. A little rain

I mentioned it was cloudy

I need to recap the end of Succession as I fell asleep. It gave me the momentum to go and get a shower and put myself to bed all clean.

It was very still but also cloudy for the Early Walk. Charlie was still being a flasher but decided to go home at halftime as he couldn’t be bothered to walk up to Plakaki and back.… Read the rest

Short back and sides

It was foolish of me to think that the rodent situation was under control with the eviction of another mouse. Skinny and Isabella excitedly burrowed amongst the debris at the front of the van in search of any renegades. Isabella finally went outside to coordinate a rearguard manoeuvre and I ended up telling Skinny to give it a rest when I went to bed.… Read the rest

Eviction

I was watching an interesting yet long film and fell asleep to wake at 21:00 so decided to call it a day. The film had ended but I missed the last portion so will need to rerun it if I’m to understand what the remainder was all about. I performed my evening bedtime routine and retired to my pit.… Read the rest

Remembrance Day

I wasn’t warm initially in bed last night. I have a feeling the duvet season may be approaching. Later on, I woke up and felt as warm as the proverbial. Dawn took a while as there were clouds to the east. Charlie flashed his way around the walk so I was able to keep tabs on him.… Read the rest

The wind got up in the night so I knew it would be a blustery Early Walk. I put on a hooded fleece as my hair had been recently cut and didn’t fancy a stiff neck. Washing day

I watched a gritty French police film set in Paris. Plenty of intrigue and some misconduct and corruption.

Chillier with a gentle northerly breeze first thing so our walk was brisk and we were back well before seven. Charlie had a flashing collar which I unfortunately omitted to charge so his flashing was a little difficult to see especially as he’s somewhat fluffy.… Read the rest

No meters today

The alarm is still going off at 04:45 as the mornings are so clear and daylight is fairly soon upon us. More meters

The sky was clear and it was warm as we walked down the Promontory. There were plenty of stars for me to look at causing me to trip over occasionally. The walk was uneventful other than a single motorhome in the beach car park and the odd van along Alonáki Beach.

Back at the van, I spent time playing with sourdough starter and then exercising my brain before riding up the mountain and through Paleochora to Petrakis for some groceries.… Read the rest

Another 04:45 wake-up and out by 05:00 or just after to a very warm, clear and not so cloudy morning. I’d forgotten to fill the little plastic pot I use for biscuits so we were on reduced rations.
