Goodbye Charlie

Fido and Skinny went out for a wee around four so I ended up standing around waiting for them to come in. I think I got up at five so we were out about 05:15. The moon was on its way to bed so didn’t stay with us very long. Venus was watery until she rose a little higher in the sky. She was accompanied by Mars, Saturn and Jupiter, the second-brightest after Venus. The sky cleared as dawn approached so it started to get light early.

We went round again, avoiding the motorhome parked at the end of the car park and back over the rocks. The dogs played a little and then we went back to the van. A text from Ingo confirmed he and Kalliope would be feeding the cats and would then come out with Isabella. To celebrate Charlie’s last walk, we went out once more with all of them. The second walk was just after seven.

After, Kalliope and Ingo went for breakfast and I readied Charlie for departure. I thought it wise to leave Ingo to load his car then I put in the crate for Charlie. He didn’t come down to the car until they were ready to leave so that the final operation would be as smooth and rapid as possible. Charlie had a good journey to Rethymno and was handed over to Claire and David who will look after him until they leave from Iraklion on Sunday evening.

We will miss you Charlie but you will have a great time with Millie, I’m sure. Whether Millie will be happy to share will be for Reni and Tomas to determine.

The day turned out to be sunny and warm as well as the hottest so far this year. I rested a while before declaring war on the ice machine which required cleaning and checking. It is making ice which will be cleared out after twenty-four hours to be sure there’s no contamination.

Other than the ice machine, I did one wash for one of the arrivals, the second was a family also from Austria. At present, there are eight motorhomes on site with more promised for tomorrow.

I joined the workforce for food as there were greens and potatoes and salad on offer as well as some chips. I was sitting next to the latest reception assistant who has worked for a while in the reception business. He speaks good English and tells me he’s travelled to Cuba and wishes to see South America and Asia.

I went back to feed the dogs and was joined by Kalliope’s little friend Elio who likes playing with the dogs. He suggested we take the dogs out for a walk on the Promontory which we did. We met the guy who stands the stones in the lagoon area. I can confirm he likes dogs. Elio tripped over and cut his hand so he stuck it in the sea. Once we were back, I drowned it in medical alcohol. We met the couple who were in the camping back in March. They are coming back tomorrow if I can find somewhere suitable to put them.

We fed the dogs and then Elio returned to his mummy more motivated to improve his English I understand. I think they went to Anydroi for archery today.

Despite a good snooze earlier, I’m feeling quite sleepy so should take myself to bed. There appears to be a spare seat this evening as Obi has chosen to remain outside and Oskar is on the floor with Luis and Fido.

The hottest day of the year so warm, sunny and windless.
