Two Weeks On

The night was hot, Luis had the fidgets and the neighbours were having an enjoyable evening. The last two conditions were contributory. I’d retired to bed around ten as I felt tired despite my generally languid state during the day.

The alarm woke me at 05:25 and we were out of the gate soon after. There was little wind just the occasional gust so it was warm and easy going. Some different cars adorned the car park so I expected to see more FreeLoaders. The same vans were clumped together opposite our exit from the field. One French, one German and one Italian. The tent-dwellers were in residence presumably as the night was reasonably still.

We found some maggots which were generally ignored after I warned Sasha not to make a fuss. We completed our circuits without falling over anyone which was the main thing. I took them all back and used the stillness and coolness of the day to ride my bike up to the top of the mountain and around Paleochora and back. For the time of day, there was reasonable activity.

I decided to spend a few minutes alone in the sea despite the lumpiness, so stopped on the way back. It looked as though I was the only one in the water. The girlies were waiting to walk so we got on with it before the day became any warmer. I think walking them when it’s warm is preferable to riding my bike in the warm.

Our second walk took us past the same maggot-danglers who were present on the rocks earlier. Sasha, with a little encouragement from me, managed almost to resist the urge to bark at the fishermen.

It was now over 30ºC so I parked myself to exercise my brain and rest my eyelids before releasing and feeding the multitude. It was Sunday morning and the neighbours had been late to bed. They will be sleeping in their own bedrooms tonight. There’s a group coming tomorrow so I shall not be alone for more than one night.

After two weeks, I can report that my finger is on the mend but still lacking a nail. I’m still a bit bruised and my ribs are uncomfortable. Most of the scabs have disappeared and my face looks less of a trainwreck.

Somewhat better than two-weeks ago. I’m sorry I didn’t take a photo at the actual event but had other things on my mind…

What have we done all day? Not a lot really as it’s been hot as well as windy. Without the wind, it would have been very hot. The wind gusted to Bft 9 at times and threatens to be stronger tomorrow and Tuesday. If the forecast is to be believed, there will be some calmer days and more wind next weekend!

Punters are leaving as it’s Sunday afternoon and more seem to want to come to stay despite the less than calm weather. The locals are made of sterner stuff!

It was around 30ºC after midnight with a brief descent to 27.9ºC around seven. The wind got up during the morning and was stronger than yesterday. It may be even stronger tomorrow and Tuesday.
