Pussy games

I eventually took eight dogs for a walk as both Sasha and Maya were up and eager. Perhaps not quite as active or as flexible as usual, but definitely up for some exercise.

Rain was forecast for around six and we were not disappointed. Similar to the day before, just light rain and drizzle. There were no strong winds so we crossed the rocks, marched on to Plakaki and walked back for another turn around the Promontory. We returned to the camping to deposit the boys, minus Obi, who appeared later as we crossed the car park on the way back.

Isabella raced after the ball with extreme vigour however the other two were more restrained. There was not much dampness during the second walk however the wind strengthened dramatically. We picked up Obi as we crossed the car park and returned to the camping.

I’d been trying to catch the ginger tom which I felt had been causing most of the fuss however yesterday he was nowhere to be seen so only the dogs saw the vet. This morning, when I went to feed the cats, an unexpected bonus appeared. Not only the ginger tom but quite a fierce and vocal tabby. The tabby is up for being petted, on his/her terms but is certainly quite scrawny and wild. The cat settled down having declined to eat so I wondered if I might trap it under a plastic tomato crate. I picked one up and was surprised how easily it could be caught. It was very unhappy so I put a heavy weight on top of the upturned crate to prevent it escaping whilst I planned a way to contain it for transit. A metal refrigerator shelf was nearby so I managed to slide it under the open side of the tomato box and then fasten the wire shelf to the plastic tomato box. Then, it was simply a matter of gently turning the crate back over so the cat would be sitting on the bottom of the crate. Despite wearing gloves, I took some limited incoming but the gloves were indispensable. Horst, who drives the silver Lupo, just like my old one, came to pick up the cat. He simply threw an old towel over the whole ensemble and deftly carried it to the boot of the Lupo. We both agreed that it was not our problem as to how the cat should be removed at the other end. Horst left with the cat and I’d forgotten to give him the plastic collar which I think will be unnecessary as neither Sasha nor Maya seem to be licking the wound.

It was now far too windy to ride to Paleochora so I asked the French couple to get some bread from the bakers as I knew they were going into Paleochora to the museum. They even brought it back for me rather than wait until the evening when they returned!

I had several little jobs to do including picking up the floor tiles scattered around the compound. Bona and Tarti came to collect Maya who we considered to be well enough to go home. Bona said she missed having her around but I think it was probably better for her to be with Sasha and to get a good walk with the others.

Some customers have left but others have resolutely remained. Maria tried to catch the poorly pussy without success as she couldn’t find her. Antonis will pass early tomorrow so I might be able to catch the tom and get him done as well as get the other cat, if found, to see the vet.

The afternoon has brightened up, however the wind continues.

Maria has found the cat which is now captive in the office.

Clocks go back two weeks today giving lighter mornings…

Very windy as the day passed. More tomorrow. Flooding yesterday in the north of the island
