One departure and one arrival

I watched Sean Bean as Sharpe and noticed one of his ‘Chosen Men’ was a certain Daniel Craig. Sharpe was busy training men to shoot three rounds in two minutes, defeat the French and rescue maidens from a fate worse than death. All good harmless fun.

More strong wind and another cold night didn’t encourage me to part with my bed. I loafed in bed until the dogs started to move around just before seven. It was light when we went out as the sun was soon to rise. The bushes on the Promontory provided shelter from the cold, northerly wind so that is where we stayed although I ventured briefly onto Alonáki Beach where it was far too windy and cold to contemplate a walk to Plakaki. We would probably have not made it that far anyway as the river would have still been too wide to cross as it was yesterday.

A pickup with a couple of men and a dog drove onto Grammeno Beach which gave Maya the ideal excuse to bark even more. I could hear from the Promontory how well she was doing. We were out a reasonable time but eventually returned sans Skinny who had gorn orf on an experience of his own. He reappeared later having sampled the cats’ food whilst waiting for me to open the gate. Sasha’s barking alerted me to his presence.

I walked the camping to see that most things were working and then fed the animals before making tea for myself.

It was too cold to be outside for long so we adjourned inside the van leaving the wind to whistle happily outside. Luc, with the Belgian Boudoir, came to ask if he could checkout. He’d probably had enough of Maya barking in the night. He was instantly replaced by a German woman with a dog who has taken his exact location. The dog was very pleasant.

The afternoon brightened up and there was even some sunshine leading to a current battery SOC of almost 60% from under 20% earlier in the day. With more sunshine tomorrow the battery should get charged to over 80%. I can go wild with the heating tonight! Usually, I heat the van electrically for a couple of hours in the evening. There is still no gas connected.

I’ve fixed the thermostatic fan control as the temperature probe had stopped sending data to the control unit. I can see that the temperature was 11.6ºC which probably explains why the dogs were curled up tight. Nothing compared to the Turkish/Syrian earthquake victims who might be buried in rubble or having to live outside as their buildings have been destroyed or are unsafe.

The temperature has remained pretty constant throughout the day. It was effectively around 4ºC this morning due to the strong, northerly wind. From now on, the temperature is forecast to rise gradually over the next few days. Without the sun and with some sun, things can change dramatically.
