EEST Begins

I went to bed early as I fell asleep in front of the box and wanted to get up earlier to compensate for the later start due to the clocks. I switched my alarm time to be fifteen minutes earlier as it’s light enough in the mornings. Despite this, it was just before six when we went out. One day, we might stop doing this twice each year.

Luis disappeared early on but then reappeared on a couple of occasions. The problem he was having seems to be less important to him now and he came out later with Skinny and the girls.

A car was parked nearly opposite where we come out onto the road although there was no sign of an occupant. I took the girls and a crate-full of bottles where we rediscovered Luis who was lurking. Only Oskar and Obi remained behind. Perhaps they all want a longer walk.

The customers seem to like separating out their glass for recycling and the receptacle in the car park is filling up quite quickly with all the additional glass. It seems such as waste to throw glass into landfill when it saves so much energy reusing unwanted containers.

I went into Paleochora, bought bread and then stopped at Petrakis for some tomatoes and carrots for the DDs tomorrow. Petrakis is open today as they closed for the holiday yesterday. They start opening every day sometime after Easter. It was quite busy considering.

I rode back against the wind to find calm in the camping. I spent time rearranging my brain before releasing and feeding the dogs. It was soon time to meet Frank to put on his wash however it turned out he’d forgotten the time so his neighbours, the Swiss couple, swapped their slot. Frank had his turn a little later and decided on a 60ºC wash anyway.

I sat around in the sun and drank tea. It seemed a sensible way to regenerate my strength after visits to the washing machine and dropping off the wash. I was very busy doing something important if only I could remember what it was.

I spent quite a while trying to buy some network switches as Georgia has finally decided to invest in a restaurant ordering system similar to the one used by other restaurants. Most involve a handset the server takes to the table which transmits the food and drink orders to the kitchen and bar respectively. These are printed out so that the staff can prepare the drinks and food as soon as the order is taken. The previous system was hopelessly inefficient, required lots of walking around and lead to diners actually leaving before their meals were served.

Better still is when the customer orders from a QR code which takes them to an online menu where they can choose their meals in their own time without the pressure of the server. Good for customers who know what they want. The server just brings the drinks and food as it arrives from the bar/kitchen. Perhaps less of a personal service.

The sun shone from a blue sky but was accompanied by some unexpected wind which had a significant cooling effect when out of the sun in an unsheltered location. Manos was painting the back of T5 when I saw him and has finished the M’s. Ameer was painting the Customer Kitchen and washing up area. I removed surplus networking paraphernalia to let the dog see the rabbit. I shall reinstate it tidily one the paint has had time to dry properly. I had to inspect the cooking area so made appropriate noises as required. I pointed out that he’d made a poor job as he hadn’t left a mess all over the counters and there wasn’t paint on the floor. It’s what comes of employing people who know what they’re doing and can be bothered to drape polythene sheet over the surfaces and clean up afterwards. He will never be a proper Greek ‘craftsman’.

I received a telephone call from a Luxembourg number from a customer who’s threatening to stay at the camping for a couple of nights. He asked what time he should arrive so I told him as soon as possible to be able to see the camping in daylight. I have a feeling he’ll turn up when it pleases him. Just what one wants on a Sunday evening. I’ve cooked chickpeas for a mega salad so it’s not the end of the world as there’s nothing to get cold.

Toni has just returned with Maya and Rex after their walk. Manos and Georgia were caught in Candid Camera too. The Doggy Rice is cooked so now seems a good time to feed them to guarantee the arrival of the Luxembourgois.

Slightly warmer than yesterday despite the chilly wind. Most of the day was sunny and warm. Tomorrow should be similar however Tuesday and Wednesday are looking cooler and windier. Hurray!
