Lazy Sunday

Luis decided to bark in the night responding to a distant barking session. I asked him politely to shut up as I’m not too keen on being woken up early on a Sunday. I finally got up at 04:40 as I seemed to have had enough sleep by then.

The morning was quite still and warm as we crossed the field with Luis dragging his feet a little. He had important missions to complete so I was happy for these to take place in the field rather than the beach. The others disappeared into the darkness; this was tempered by the moon which was fairly high in the sky so provided a reasonable amount of light.

We all made it to the Plakaki rocks and were walking back to The Promontory when I heard barking ahead. Frank was standing on the beach, not far from his caravan, having been woken by an annoying mosquito. The dogs came back to me so we could make a more orderly approach. They introduced themselves and then went off to keep themselves amused whilst we chatted.

We continued and completed the walk with Luis almost managing to get out onto the Plakaki rocks to the end. It was after eight when I put the boys inside even though we’d had an earlier start than usual.

I rode into Paleochora via Panorama but no stops were required so I went back to the camping. The pedestrian/cycle way was much busier than I’ve seen for a while.

I returned to release and feed the dogs but was interrupted by Pascale, the French lady, to say they were leaving. She insisted they’d stayed four nights even though I said it was only three. They paid up and left soon after.

I waitied until a reasonable hour before presenting Georgia with April’s takings. She had a friend with her and Manos turned up so I was able to conveniently slip away.

There were two arrivals, the first, which was expected, from UK, the second, a single Dutchman in a camper van. They are next to each other with the Dutchman in Bay 5. The English/Irish are booked for a two-week stay but I suspect the Dutchman won’t stay long.

I wanted to recharge the bike batteries so brought them in. It was only when I came to test the settings that I discovered that one of the switches on the multi-timer/switch was locked on and some of the connections were not as tight as they might be. The warrantee has long since expired so I dismantled the device to make some internal modifications to the circuit board which simplifies the external wiring. Something I should have done from the outset. One port needs a new relay but three are still working. The relay probably failed due to a poor external connection. Consequently, I amused myself with my soldering iron, dismantling and modifying the device.

The German couple with the children by the bar, have stayed longer than they expected so I’ll need to move them so that work can begin to ready the bar and restaurant for the new season. I noticed some new bar chairs in the storeroom which I assume Georgia brought from Chania.

The day has been warm and sunny with the under-awning temperature reaching almost 30ºC. The cloudy and calm start evolved into a sunny but windy day.

There has been some feasting and relaxing in the Common Room as the staff appear to be having an afternoon off.

Warmer than yesterday with a sunny but blustery day. The next few days are forecast to be warm and more settled.
