Hottest Day

I thought I’d got away with unexpected late arrivals when the phone rang with an Italian guy on the other end. He and his wife wanted to look at some accommodation so I showed them Ξ2 and T1. They said it wasn’t quite what they were looking for and left. I suggested they might rent an apartment further down the road.

The dogs were unimpressed with the concept of sitting on bare boards so there was plenty of fidgeting around during the night. We were out at 04:45 but the Italian guy was in his van on his laptop so I knew we wouldn’t run into him again. We visited the rocks at Plakaki during the first time out as it was light enough to see and not to fall over. During the second run back, we met up with Frank who was making his morning coffee. He’d not found the courier package I’d dropped off at 05:15 so I gave that to him whilst collecting the outstanding on his camping fees.

We didn’t go around the Promontory for a third time as I wanted to get into Paleochora to collect a spinach pie for Bona and do a little shopping. The latter went quite well other than I forgot half the things I needed.

The camping is very quiet as there’s only Sebastian and a German guy with a tent so I didn’t need to worry about anyone needing to check-out. I fed the dogs, made some tea and vegged my brain.

Later, Panagiotis called from the bar to tell me a customer wanted to check-in. He is an Italian on a motorbike who is planning to tour the island after a gap of about thirty years. He says he’ll stay a couple of days.

I wandered the camping a couple of times, once to meet the courier delivering my tyres from RadPower Bikes in the Netherlands. The last time I bought tyres they were 50€ each, now they are 65€. They’re worth it as they are very strong with a special puncture-resistant layer. I can now change out the front when the urge takes me. I think it is the original tyre.

Earlier, I washed, or rather hosed off a couple of the fleecy dog blankets which I will put on top of some interlocking floor tiles I’ve put over the wooden benches. The dogs will find this more comfortable but not as much as the thick foam from the original cushions which made up a double bed in the rear seating area. Seeing as I’ve never used this bed, I’ve cut out a piece of the original foam which is large enough for me to sit comfortably. The dogs will have to make do.

The camping is empty except for three single men. The bar is open and Manos tells me there are fakes for this evening however I think this is just for the staff. There are certainly insufficient customers to support the restaurant but the new serving staff will get in some practice. I have no new information regarding the ordering system but suspect the initial excitement has waned once the implications of spending money are considered. There’s little point in deploying technology to save labour costs.

I was advised yesterday that Georgia would be running through the plan for the takeover to the new Maria Dogsbody. As of 18:03, she’s not put in an appearance but then timekeeping has never been a Greek strong suite. Hopefully, she won’t pitch up later and request some get-together near to [my] bedtime.

The hottest day of the year with plenty of sunshine and very little wind. The forecast is still unsettled for the next few days with cloudiness and a slight possibility of very small quantities of rain.
