Given Up

The tented neighbours only stayed one night so last night was more peaceful once they left. My intention was to go to bed to read but I’d forgotten my glasses and couldn’t be bothered to get up so went to sleep instead.

The morning blossomed warm and reasonably inviting. The two motorhomes were back in position as were the couple with a roof tent. Other vans, including Frank, were scattered along the track with one man sleeping on the beach. I’d not realised until he was being explored by some of the dogs. We continued to Plakaki and back along the beach. There were no other excitements this morning other than a short diversion down the river to the road bridge as we’d not been there for a very long time. The river route, which I used a few years back for a while, is difficult as so much of it is used as a general dumping ground for all manner of undesirable material. Added to that, it’s alive with goats which means I have to be constantly vigilant.

I rode off to Paleochora via Panorama once I’d checked out the Germans and their grown-up children in their motorhome. The French couple were also planning to depart but they were not evident. I bought bread and went to Petrakis as it’s DDs day so I wanted some additional bits. I received a couple of calls from Maria in the office telling me she couldn’t access the camping’s website and booking page. I told her to restart the laptop but that did no good. I checked the website on my phone to find it was offline meaning the fault was at the server end. I finished my shopping then sent a message to the website manager advising him of the fact. It was back up shortly after I got back to the camping.

I went to see Maria to be sure everything was ok and said that I’d decided to officially give up on parking the motorhomes and that Toni could deal with it from then on. I’ve had enough of being on-call and need some time to sort out my own stuff and have a break from being tied to the camping. I think she understood. Tomorrow, I’ll hand over all the paperwork so I’ll then be able to relax.

I fed dogs and put on the DDs then sat down with a cup of tea and my computer. It was good not to have to think about leaping up to deal with the punters. Later, Marisa called asking me to see in a motorhome. She thought I was joking when I said no but I explained that I’d told Maria I was stopping and that Toni would just have to get on with it.

Much of the remainder of the time was taken up with sorting out the May summary sheet and getting the customer sheets ready to hand over with all the money tomorrow when it’s quieter. I had several trips to the office to pick up printing as I went through the sheets to make sure the summary was correct. There is another 80€ to go to Georgia for May and around 900€ to the office together with the customer information sheets. From there, they can get on with it and check out the four remaining motorhomes.

I had an interesting conversation with Marisa about how she ended up working at reception. Apparently, she filled in at the bar when a staff member suddenly ‘left’ but made a series of stipulations about working in reception. We agreed that rental tents should be deployed elsewhere and certainly not next to me. I will ask her to have a work with Toni about moving it.

Anke came to deliver another 20kg of pussy food and to discuss her living arrangements. She says there’s loads of work at present which is probably a good thing. I mentioned that, as far as I was concerned, there was no hurry to take the cats especially as the punters love them so much.

The kitchen could only offer me spaghetti and sauce but I’ve some broccoli which will be added to it. I think the punters ate most of the food in the restaurant which is what it’s all about.

I don’t care if there are any late arrivals as it’s not my problem anymore! Hurrah!

Cooler than yesterday and turning a little cloudy in the afternoon. Plenty of joyful sounds from the direction of the beach. Tomorrow will probably be cooler but the outlook is reasonable for a few days.
