John the Blacksmith

Most of the night was between 25-26ºC and only Isabella opted out. There was no rowdiness on the part of the customers or the dogs, other than those in the neighbourhood. Seemingly, Maya used to bark a lot in the night however that’s not been a problem since she’s been here.

The Czechs have gone but the van and car from the previous night remained in the beach car park. There was an additional van along the beach track too.

The first part of the walk was completed without undue excitement. I kept an eye on Obi to ensure he remained with us. The girls came out later but we didn’t walk far and concentrated on plenty of ball-throwing and trips in the sea for Isabella. Even though I threw a ball for Sasha occasionally, Isabella returned with hers and is still happy to release the ball upon request or when she’s hopeful I might throw it for her. There were some tents at the south end of the Big Beach so we were at the other end.

I exercised my brain then rode into Paleochora with no stops other than at Alonáki Beach for a quick swim, the first of the season. There were some noisy people nearby so I didn’t hang about once I got out. In any event, it was 09:45 and time for some tea!

The morning drifted by until I received a surprise phone call from the delivery driver who’d brought my air conditioner. He’d left the boxes outside reception and I carted them back later. Meanwhile, I connected the camping mobile to the meter-reading software so that the office staff can see the usage. I chatted to Marisa for a while and played with Kira, her little Cocker. It started to get busier so I took my air con and departed.

So far, the outside unit is sitting on a concrete block at the rear of the van. The head unit will fit in the most favourable location above the rear bench seat although the distance requirements will be difficult to fulfil exactly. 2m from floor to head unit will be a little tricky but that’s probably with a mind to avoiding banging your head on it. Banging ones head in the van is an occupational hazard. With a 9000BTU unit the air con won’t have to work very hard in such a small sapace

The unit is expected to be installed by a technician so I’ll need to get hold of some copper piping and some electrical cables from my local supplier. The length is dependent on the distance between the head unit and the outside part which in my case should be not more than 3m. This is very handy as then I wont have to add refrigerant. I still need to acquire a vacuum pump but that’s one of the last parts of the installation. Setting up the head unit, pipe work and electrical connections is the first part. The outside unit has a direct electrical connection with the head unit so they can talk to each other.

The groups have been all around me today. Initially to the north and then to the south right next to the fence. Not that I can complain as they have been very discreet and Oskar barked only a couple of times.

Someone has or plans to put a tent near the fence to the north but they know about the dogs as Oskar ensured there was no confusion.

And… MARIA has arrived as promised. I’ve not seen her as she was resting in her room when I came to reception to collect my delivery. Marisa has had to put her straight on a couple of things so MARIA may need to be a little more flexible this year. Irresistible Force and all that…

The Internet went off due to a power outage in the laundry room. The washing machine was on, I reset the breaker but left the machine off. Bona called me but I directed her to Toni as he’s paid to be the handyman. Bona said the washing machine has been fixed the day before. The plot thickens but is not my problem.

And finally, today is the feast of John The Blacksmith, the reason for this weekend’s festivities.

Slightly cooler than yesterday and less windy too. Still plenty of sunshine so the perfect compliment to a jolly camping weekend.
