Still Warm

I started off the night in bed but with the fan on so it was reasonably comfortable despite it being nearly 32ºC at times. Only Isabella, Obi and Maya were outside and she had her collar.

It was warm and initially quite still although the wind got up later. Cars were still parked in the car park and a couple on the beach road together with a sprinkling of motorhomes. We didn’t find maggots on the Promontory or sleeping on any nearby sun beds. If anything, they were further down the beach towards the camping.

I decided to go in the sea whilst it was still dark. It was amusing to see the flashing lights on the beach as they rested waiting for me. As usual, Skinny was far at the front and Obi in another world. Oskar was content to stay with the girls. We completed the first walk and back to the camping and then out again where, this time, I swam from the Big Beach as the three of them watched patiently. At this point, the wind had grown stronger.

I waited before setting off having messed with my brain and drunk tea. It was getting hotter so I decided to ride to Alonàki and swim then ride towards Paleochora. The sea was a little lumpy at Alonàki but very pleasant bathing. I was not alone.

I rode towards Paleochora with the intention of trying another beach and finally went to the most westerly of the Paleochora beaches not far from the EKO filling station. It was rocky so I should have walked up further for a better swim. My bike was in a shady spot but was not visible so I wasn’t keen on going too far.

Back to the camping to feed the dogs and make more tea as the temperature along the road headed towards 40ºC. I considered stopping at Alonàki but then didn’t.

With all of the day’s activity out of the way and the temperature approaching 40ºC I decided I’d done enough so settled in for a day of comparative inactivity. Moving around didn’t seem like a plan but I found plenty of ways to amuse myself including some small IT support tasks. The dogs panted and slept as might I have but not so much of the panting.

Other than the support calls and some personal correspondence, that was the top and the bottom of it.

Come teatime, there was some disturbance between Maya and Isabella. Maya is invariably the instigator as she growls at Isabella. A fight broke out so I let them get on with it. They have to work it out for themselves and find a solution. Maya is quite strong so is a formidable opponent for Isabella who has a high opinion of herself anyway. Not that she causes me any problem as she’s almost instantly obedient. It’s good to see her having to justify her position against a determined contender. I eventually broke it up by telling them to stop. Maya then got stressy with Luis at which point I pinned her to the ground so there was no confusion as to who the real boss is. She submitted almost instantly.

My next excitement is a trip to the kitchen and food.

Cooler than yesterday with some wind. The hottest time of the day was the morning and early afternoon. A cooler evening would be a bonus. We should see the moon again quite soon.
