More Departures

I found myself feeling quite sleepy around nine soon after watching a great episode of Endeavour followed by some YouTube shorts. So I went to bed. Possibly something to do with the hour change. I hate this change but like the lighter mornings.

The inside of the van was quite warm. The door and windows are closed to prevent unwelcome visitors and the AC, although running 24/7, is set to 29ºC. Outside was refreshingly cooler.

Yappy Dog was still there but the Greek guy in Dog Van was gone. The moon was unimpaired by obstructions so progress was good with little need of a torch other than those difficult areas with rocks that hide in the shadows.

We completed our workout and returned to the van where I got the DDs underway for later. The girls waited patiently for their second walk which took place once I’d fed Moggy.

We walked to Azzuro and back throwing the ball constantly as the sun was well up in the sky even though the clock said 06:45. We got suitably tired swapping some Kms for ball-chasing.

I had a little pause before heading into Paleochora for some bread for a couple of customers and some vegetables from Petrakis which seemed quite busy.

I fed the dogs before delivering the bread. Half a loaf to Lucy and one loaf to the Austrian/German couple. They will let me know when they want another.

I had money to collect so went on to do that. Gabi and Manfred’s friends were packing up but, as I saw later, they made a very leisurely departure. The Greek ladies, having called me earlier to say they were leaving are staying one more night. They haggled over the bill but eventually paid what was due. They’re having a little get together this evening to say goodbye to their entourage. They made a worthwhile contribution to the coffers so one mustn’t complain.

The German couple whose restaurant was swamped by mud and water have left to continue their holiday. They showed photos of the destruction but said there was no insurance payout due to the proximity to the sea and precarious nature of the site. They estimate in the region of 8,000€ for repairs. Not the end of the world but enough.

There were two arrivals. A German couple in a van-derived camper and a larger motorhome. The former I put by the restaurant kitchen but they will take the place released next to Gabi and Manfred. The others are behind Michael on the middle road. We had an interesting discussion about refugees and our liability to render aid given our past colonial proclivities. Germany is as much to blame as everyone who benefited from past exploitation of the Global South.

I eventually got back to process the DDs and feed the dogs. They seemed keen on eating even though I kept mentioning it wasn’t teatime. Their clocks didn’t change as they are connected to the sun and not Father Time.

I bought some lovely beetroot this morning also some broccoli and courgettes. Even the class A ones were reasonably priced and fresh in. Prices fluctuate so need to be watched.

I feel as though I’ve done enough today so am looking forward to something to eat and a little relaxation.

Warmer than yesterday with little wind and plenty of sun. The sea is still warm as I paddled with the dogs this morning.
